Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame is a massive expansion that has come to Path of Exile, introducing a brand-new league mechanic, sweeping endgame improvements, major crafting changes, and significant updates to character progression. Players can now explore the ocean floor, recruit mercenaries, experiment with an entirely new crafting system, and more! Here's a complete breakdown of everything new coming in Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame.

Explore the Ocean Floor

In this incredible update, you'll be sent beneath the frigid, icy seas of Wraeclast on a dangerous expedition for long-lost treasure. With Captain Valerie and her navigator Vesper by your side, you'll use Allflame Lanterns to light your path as you explore the ocean floor in search of resources and hidden treasures. You shouldn't feel entirely safe, though, despite your companions - as ferocious monsters are lurking nearby, just laying in wait for your lantern's light to fade. Because once darkness closes in, those creatures will be poised to attack, leaving the Bathysphere as the only means of escape.

Quick Tip: Allflame Lanterns force back the area's surrounding water, and allow for pockets of safety.

Plan Lucrative Voyages

The player is now able to map out expeditions, and every completed voyage records a new Chart within Valerie’s journal, which can link completed expeditions together into one massive interconnected journey across the ocean floor. All Charts have interesting, differing effects. Some may transform equipment drops into Gold or unleash Tormented Spirits, while others lean into whimsy and summon lovable jellyfish! Players can combine up to nine Charts at once, creating dozens of different stacked modifiers and yielding higher potential rewards.

Special Charts are also available, and can reveal idiosyncratic destinations that players can't access any other way, such as sunken Abyssal pits and abandoned anchor fields. Hidden in the depths of some of these locations is a strange coral formation that can be harvested for Dead Man's Sulphur, a valuable resource that fuels your expeditions.

Crafting with Allflame

Dead Man's Sulphur not only allows your expeditions to continue, but it powers an entirely new crafting system! Without giving too much away, this new mechanic allows players to predict multiple crafting outcomes before actually selecting one, which offers greater control over riskier crafting decisions. However, choose wisely, because once you select an outcome, the other possibilities may just vanish forever.

Deep in the depths of the ocean are ancient relics called Ducats, left behind by pirate lords many lifetimes ago. These rare artifacts provide access to exclusive crafting effects not found in any other crafting system.

Kishara's Ducat

Creates multiple ghostly copies of an item while preserving individual modifiers.

Genteel's Ducat

Capable of transforming one attribute requirement into another

Brinehook's Ducat

Grants mysterious Aspects inspired by the ancient gods of Wraeclast.

These Ducats are only found within specialized Charts, acting as an incredible reward for only the bravest of voyagers.

Return of Mercenaries

Beginning in Act 3, the Mercenaries of Trarthus make a comeback, having earned a permanent spot as a gameplay mechanic. This means that players can duel Mercenaries for equipment, temporarily recruit them as allies, and obtain Warrants to summon them in the future! Accompanying their return is Atlas Passive Tree and Scarab integration.

The Abyss and Legion

In this update, the Abyss has been completely reworked, and now features faster encounters, improved pacing, brand-new loot and rewards, and a long-awaited Pinnacle boss. Abyss encounters now spawn from open pits that leech darkness and corrupt any and all enemies that may be nearby.

Legion is introducing exclusive rewards called Vestigial Unique Items. Legion Generals now drop Enshrouding Crystals, which let you transform Unique Armour in the Domain of Timeless Conflict, transferring powerful modifiers from one Unique to another. Accompanying this new reward system, combat inside of Legion encounters now automatically begin once a certain number of key enemies have been freed. While playing, you'll also find a redesigned reward tracker that provides clearer progression throughout every encounter.

Atlas Anomalies

Zana is hard at work destabilizing the Atlas, which has caused it to react in strange new ways. Throughout the region, players have begun to stumble upon mysterious locations that, until now, were unknown to society. These locations have been dubbed as Atlas Anomalies, and can manifest after completing Maps influenced by Voidstones. They also boast certain unique mechanics, including Heist, Expedition, Sacred Grove, Reflecting Mists, Cadiro Perandus and more. Anomalies can be visited at any time, and the player can return to each location until the Anomaly's reward is claimed.

Spellcasting & Character Progression Improvements

Curse of Allflame also includes a massive overhaul to spellcasting and early-game character progression. Spellcasting has received a major balance pass and now differentiates elemental archetypes, improving Intelligence Ascendancies and more. A little Sawbones has told us that this update introduces an entirely new class of Exceptional Skill Gems, known as Pacts...

After nearly twenty years, socket colors have been redesigned, allowing players to freely socket any colored skill gem into their equipment while still saving colored sockets as fundamental progression.

New Supporter Packs

Launching alongside Curse of the Allflame are two additional Supporter Packs titled The Plague and Remidus. These packs feature exclusive cosmetic armor, weapon effects, hideouts, portals, pets, and even more incredible surprises. All of these cosmetic enhancements are purely visual and completely compatible with Path of Exile 2.

With a brand-new league mechanic, a fresh take on crafting, the return of Mercenaries, major Atlas and endgame improvements, and sweeping gameplay updates, Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame is shaping up to be one of the game's biggest, most exciting expansions yet. Whether you're diving into the ocean depths for treasure or chasing after the newest enemy to defeat, there's no shortage of reasons to jump back into Wraeclast and see what awaits beneath the waves.
