Diablo 4 Azmodan, Lord of Sin Strategy Writeup
Azmodan, Lord of Sin, is a giant six-legged demon lord that mainly deals in AoE damage. It is very important to keep a sharp eye on this boss's animations, as these would help a lot in dodging and predicting most of Azmodan's attacks. Players standing too close and in front of Azmodan will cause him to stomp on them, so unless you're a tank, don't stand too close; try to position yourself behind him or beside him as much as possible. He'll also start spamming this attack as his HP lowers.
To deal with players that are too far from him, he'll create fissures on the ground around him that moderately stretch outward from his position and push out spikes, and these deal a lot of damage. Make sure to be between those fissures and not on them if you can't run away in time. Azmodan'll look around him with his hands above him before slamming his body to the ground, casting 360-degree shockwaves that can cause massive damage. He'll show greyish smoke coming from him before doing this, too, so that's a tell players can watch out for before he does this.
He can call on long-range, smaller fissures that create circles on the ground that can cause damage to players; these are easy to dodge the farther the player is away from Azmodan, so what ranged players can do is maintain a fair enough distance from him. Do not linger in one place too long, as aside from his other attacks, he can call upon rings of fire to spawn in front of him. He'll wave his hand upwards when he does this. Always stay on the move. He's able to spit out lava, which will form a half circle of molten lava on the ground, be sure to avoid it as soon as you spot him spewing it from his mouth. He'll spawn in groups of Balrog to aid him, as these enemies are fairly easy to take care of, players must make sure to dispatch of them as quickly as possible to mitigate extra damage.
Attacks & Counters
| Attack | Counter |
| Stomp: Azmodan will stomp on players who are too close in front of him | If you're not a tank, try to position yourself to his sides or behind him. |
| Fissure: Azmodan will create fissures in the ground that push out spikes. He'll first do hand gestures as if he's beckoning the ground to erupt. He'll do these hand gestures twice, first to call on the fissures to happen, and a second time to have spikes come out of them. | Watch out for his hand gestures. If you can't get away fast enough, position yourself between the fissures to avoid taking massive damage from them. |
| Shockwave: After looking around him, greyish smoke coming from beneath him, he'll then slam his body to the ground, creating a powerful shockwave. | When he's looking around, he'll have his hands up in the air before slamming his body to the ground. |
| Lava Strikes: He'll do a swiping motion with his hand, and smaller fissures will open up on the ground that will start off by moving away from him and then continue to move in a circular motion. The fissures have quite a bit of range on them, but fairly easy to avoid as long as you remain calm. | These fissures move fast, but are easier to dodge the farther you are from Asmodan. If you don't need to be up close to him, try to maintain a moderate range from him. |
| Rings of Fire: He'll wave his hand upwards, and a circle of fire will spawn in front of him, with the flames moderately rising. | It would be best not to stand in one place when fighting Azmodan, always be on the move as much as possible. |
| Lava Breath: He'll spit molten lava, creating a half circle on the ground. | He'll cast this pretty fast, but once he starts spitting lava, it's easy to dodge, get away from the lava. |
| Balrog Spawn: He'll spawn in a medium-sized group of Balrog to aid him against the players' party. | These are pretty easy to take care of, but make sure to deal with them as soon as possible to mitigate unnecessary damage from other enemies and to be able to focus on Azmodan himself. |
