A Series of Steps is a Side Quest in Diablo 4. A Series of Steps can be found in the Ruined Tower at the Dismal Foothills in Hawezar. Side Quests are optional missions that players can complete in order to obtain different rewards. Players are usually rewarded XP, and Gold depending on their level. Completing Side Quests in a specific region will also add to the Region Renown. Side Quests can be acquired by encountering various events or interacting with different NPCs.

Taissa makes a desperate, final attempt to purge Andariel's whispers from her mind.

A Series of Steps Walkthrough

After completing the Side Quest Past Regrets, this Quest will automatically be activated and your objective will be highlighted accordingly. In case you left this next Quest for later, your objective will be in the Ruined Tower, at the Dismal Foothills.

• Speak with Taissa

You'll find Taissa sitting cross-legged on her bed. Ask her, "Are you ready to face your fears?" She'll warn you that the ritual will carry some risks for you as well.

• Peer into the Ritual Flames

Undaunted by the warning, interact with the Ritual Flames that appear between you two to initiate the ritual.

• Accompany Taissa to Elias' Sanctum

You'll find yourself in the Tyrant's Court in the Offal Pits, which is a Dungeon you would've explores during the Main Campaign. Move forward to find vestiges of Taissa's memories from her encounter with Andariel.

• Speak with Taissa

Speak to her and ask, "What happened here?" It seems this memory was from when she got caught in an attempt to stop and kill Elias.

• Slay the demonic manifestations

The vestiges will materialize into several Fragments of Doubt, and an Elite called Memory of Failure. The Elite is modeled after Brol and will attack accordingly. The Elite will have a Terrifying Affix.

• Peer into the Ritual Flames

Interact with the bookshelf blocking your path to the next objective. Interact with the Ritual Flames it was hiding to begin the next step of the ritual.

• Accompany Taissa to the Altar of Sacrifice

This time you'll find yourself in the Temple of the Primes, yet another Dungeon you would've explored by now through the Main Campaign. Head along the path toward the Altar.

• Speak with Taissa

Taissa will stop again here. Talk to her and say, "This is where we found you."

• Slay the demonic manifestations

The vestiges will materialize as Enemies again - several Fragments of Doubt and another Elite labeled as Fragment of Self-Loathing. The Elite will have the Fire Enchanted Affix this time.

• Peer into the Ritual Flames

Head back to the south and open the Heavy Iron Door. Interact with the Ritual Flames it was hiding again.

• Accompany Taissa to the center of the storm

You'll find yet another vestige at the center of the small space. Taissa will stop following you here.

• Speak with Taissa

Talk to Taissa and tell her, "We have to face her." Be ready for a harder fight than the previous ones.

• Slay the demonic manifestations

This time the vestiges will materialize as three Elite Enemies - Memory of Self-Loathing, Memory of Failure, and Memory of Guilt. The familiar ones will have the same Affixes, and the new Elite will have the Multi-shot Affix. Watch your Life as it's easy to die in this fight if you're not careful. Try to focus on Memory of Guilt first while keeping yourself moving to dodge all of their attacks.

• Defeat the Whisper of Andariel

The last vestige will materialize as a Whisper of Andariel herself, but only as an Elite with no Affixes. She has a large amount of life, but with her being on her own this should be easier than the last fight. Just make sure to dodge her attacks, marked by indicators, and watch your own Life. Don't worry, you just have to survive long enough for Taissa to stand up to the voices in her head.

• Speak with Taissa

Interact with the Ritual Flames to head back to the physical world. Speak to Taissa and ask her, "How do you feel?" This will complete the quest.
