Graveler is a powerful rock and ground-type in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, and this makes him pretty useful for some of the battles you'll take on later in the game. Even better is if you're able to evolve Graveler into Golem, its final form. However, this isn't a case of simply leveling up your Graveler. Golem has unique evolution requirements that make getting one in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen a little trickier than others. Here's what you need to know about how to get and evolve Geodude into Graveler, and evolving that into a Golem.

How to Get and Evolve Geodude in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

Geodude is a fairly common Pokemon that you'll encounter naturally as you progress on your quest to become the Pokemon Champion. That's because it's found in most caves and tunnels in the game. Specifically, it can be found in the following locations:

  • Rock Tunnel
  • Cerulean Cave
  • Mt. Moon
  • Mt. Ember Cave
  • Kindle Road
  • Victory Road
  • Quest Island

The earliest of these in the game is Mt. Moon, which you encounter right after Pewter City. To get here, take the path on the right side of Pewter City onto Route 3.

Follow the gaps in the little fences to proceed to the right of the route. Once you reach the end, you'll find a cave entrance just to the north. This is Mt. Moon.

Head inside, and you'll have a 25% chance of encountering a Geodude between levels 7 and 9 on 1F and a 30% chance of finding one between levels 9 and 10 on B2F.

Once you've caught a Geodude, battle with it until it reaches level 25. This will cause it to evolve into Graveler.

Geodude is not a version exclusive Pokemon in either FireRed or LeafGreen, meaning you can find them in both games.

If you're playing the Nintendo Switch versions of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, this process may be slightly different due to trading potentially not being possible. As soon as we've confirmed the evolution process for Graveler in the Switch versions of the game, we'll update this guide.

Graveler can be evolved by trading it with another player. To trade Pokemon, you need to head to a Pokemon Center and go upstairs. Here, you need to enter the Direct Corner and choose the Trade Center option when speaking with the attendant.

Graveler can also be found in the wild in Cerulean Cave, Kindle Road, Mt. Ember, and Seavault Canyon.

Select the friend you'd like to trade with, and then choose your Graveler. Once the trade is complete, your Graveler will immediately start to evolve in your friend's game. Once this is done, have them trade the Golem back to you, and you'll be able to continue leveling it up.

You can always ask a friend who has a Graveler to simply trade theirs for yours and keep each other's.

Keep in mind that stats and movesets may differ, so you might be giving up your more powerful Golem with a more rounded moveset for a weaker, less impressive species.
