HM07 Waterfall Location in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen

HM07 Waterfall is a powerful Water-type Hidden Machine in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen that allows trainers to ascend waterfalls found in some bodies of water. Although not required for story progression, there are a lot of really useful items and Pokemon that can only be found by using Waterfall.

Where to Find Waterfall in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

HM07 Waterfall Location

HM07 Waterfall can be found in Icefall Cave on Four Island, which is a part of the Sevii Islands in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Four Island can only be accessed using the Rainbow Pass, an item that is only available after you’ve unlocked the National Dex in FRLG.

National Dex

The National Dex can be obtained by talking to Professor Oak in Pallet Town after you have captured at least 60 species of Pokemon,. have beaten the Elite Four and cleared the Indigo League to become champion, and have visited the Sevii Islands at least once.

Rainbow Pass

After acquiring the National Dex, go to One Island by taking the ferry from the Vermilion City docks and talk to Celio in the Pokemon Network Center. Celio will give you a quest to recover a Ruby from Mt. Ember on One Island. Head north through Kindle Road to Mt. Ember and look for two Rocket Grunts on the outskirts next to a cave entrance. Defeat the Rocket Grunts and explore the cave to find the Ruby.

Return the Ruby to Celio, and he will give you the Rainbow Pass as a reward, allowing you to access four new Sevii Islands: Four Island, Five Island, Six Island, and Seven Island.

Four Island

After obtaining the Rainbow Pass, go to the Ferry on One Island (or any other dock) and ask the sailor to take you to Four Island. Here, go to the southeastern edge of the town, and you’ll see a small pond you can swim across. Use HM03 Surf and swim to the other side of the pond to find the entrance to the Icefall Cave.

Icefall Cave

1. In the first chamber, swim across the water using Surf to reach the entrance to the next room.
2. In this room, you’ll find breakable ice tiles that will crack if you walk on them once, and break if you put your weight on them a second time. Carefully navigate through these ice blocks to reach the north side of the room.

3. Here, break the northernmost ice tile to you’ll fall down to the level below.

4. Use the ladder to go back up to another section of the previous floor.

5. Go south and break the southernmost ice block to fall back down a second time.

6. Now, go up, right, down, left, and down to slider across the ice, and you’ll be able to reach another ladder.

7. Climb the ladder to go back up, and you’ll see a Poke Ball right next to the ledge. Pick it up to obtain HM07 Waterfall.

How to Use Waterfall in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

HM07 Waterfall can only be used outside of battle after you have defeated Blaine in the Cinnabar Gym to earn the Volcano Badge.

HM07 Waterfall allows trainers to climb waterfalls while surfing in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. After acquiring the HM from Icefall Cave, teach one of your Pokemon Waterfall and place it in your party.

To use Waterfall, go to a body of water that has an active waterfall you can climb. Use HM03 Surf to reach the waterfall and then press A. If the prerequisites are met, your character will slowly ascend the waterfall to reach the topside. To go back, return the way you came.
