Here are all the differences that you need to know about Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen.

Where to Find Poliwhirl in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen

To catch Poliwhirl in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, players need to either catch and evolve a Poliwag or find a Poliwhirl in any of the following locations: Route 6, Route 22, Route 23, Route 25, or Viridian City. In all of the mentioned cases, Poliwag and Poliwhirl appear by either fishing it using the Good Rod or Super Rod, or by using Surf in the water around those areas.

Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl at level 25, and Poliwhirl can be evolved into Poliwrath using a Water Stone. But most players would be interested in having a Poliwhirl to trade it for Jynx at the house next to Cerulean City's Pokemon Center.

Poliwhirl and its evolution, Poliwrath, are also decent Pokemon to have in your team. Poliwrath has a BST of 510 (HP 90, Attack 95, Defense 95, Sp. Atk 70, Sp. Def 90, Speed 70), which places it among the strongest Pokemon in Gen 1 and a powerful Water/Fighting-type Pokemon that can learn one of the most useful moves in the game: Belly Drum.

Poliwhirl could also evolve into Politoed, trading it while holding a King's Rock, but in the FireRed & LeafGreen versions, this Pokemon is not available in the National Pokedex.

Remember: Getting a Good Rod is only possible when players arrive at Fuschia City, after completing the Lavender Town Tower challenge, by defeating Team Rocket at Celadon Casino, recovering the Silph Scope, and releasing the spirit of Cubone's Mother from its eternal torment.

After that, players will receive the Poke Flute from Mr. Fuji, and will be able to awaken Snorlax which is blocking the route to Fuschia City. Doing so will allow them to reach the Fifth Gym challenge (Koga, Poison-type), and also unlock the Safari Zone, the place where players need to explore to obtain the HM 03 Surf.
