Modern Pokemon players might have to take some time to get used to the "old-school-ness" of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. While it is technically a Gen 3 game, it still takes place in the very first region. That being said, you'll start your adventure without a way to run and without a bike, so you'll want running shoes ASAP. Nobody wants to move like sludge.

Where to Find Running Shoes in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
First Badge
Luckily, you won't have to travel too far before getting the running shoes in FireRed and LeafGreen. Essentially, you just need to make your way to the first Pokemon gym and face off against Brock of Pewter City. Once you get your first badge, you can head towards the eastern exit to go to Route 3. Before you leave, though, one of Professor Oak's aides will stop you in your tracks.
The NPC will simply hand the running shoes over to you for free, and now, you can hold the B button to put a little pep in your step.
If you're not sure how to get to Pewter City, just follow these steps, and you'll make it there in no time flat:
- In Pallet Town, walk in the wild grass. Oak will take you to the lab to pick your starter Pokemon.
- Battle your rival (you don't need to win).
- Head north along Route 1 and go to the Viridian City mart to pick up Oak's Parcel.
- Drop it off in Pallet Town to get a Pokedex.
- Head back to Viridian City - go north to Route 2.
- Go through the Viridian Forest and exit through the top-left to enter Route 2.
- In Pewter City, use Grass and/or Water-type moves to beat Brock in his gym.
