Rise of the Tomb Raider 1.0.2 update

Aspyr put out the first post-release update for Rise of the Tomb Raider on Nintendo Switch 2 with version 1.0.2.

Another Tomb Raider game has been added to the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup. During the most recent Nintendo Direct, Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced and released.

Following up on Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, this is the second entry in the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. It’s the first time that Nintendo players can try out the action adventure game.

To learn more about the port, we caught up with product manager Anna Grant and senior game producer Kay Gilmore. We touched on a number of important topics, such as the actual porting process, the reason for not releasing on the original Nintendo Switch, and the possibility of supporting gyro controls for aiming in the future.

Aspyr recently explained to Nintendo Everything why the new Switch 2 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t run at 60 frames per second.

When playing the game on Nintendo’s console, the action is locked to 30 FPS. Some were hoping that it’d be higher – if not 60 FPS, perhaps a middle ground at 40 FPS.

Limited Run Games today unveiled the latest physical release for its Nintendo Switch 2 lineup, which is for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

The title will be sold as part of a standard copy and a collector’s edition. Both versions come with the full game on the cartridge and a booklet.

The collector’s edition features the following:

Aspyr is continuing its push to bring over prior Tomb Raider games to Nintendo Switch 2, and today, announced Rise of The Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration for the console. This one is being shadowdropped – it’s out today.

Rise of The Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration packs in the main game and DLC. This includes prior exclusives.

Apsyr sent out the following details:

Aspyr lived up to its promise to update the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, as a patch has just been released which adds TressFX.

The inclusion of TressFX was one of the biggest player requests from the port. Up until today, it was missing in the game. TressFX is notable since it’s used to render and simulate Lara Croft’s hair more realistically.

A new statement has come in from Aspyr in which the company denied that Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered recently used generative AI for some of its content.

Last week, Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered received a major update with its Challenge Mode. However, fans weren’t happy with the results. The unlockable outfits in particular have drawn criticism and some players feel that they’re not up to quality standards. Some went as far as to claim that the outfits make use of generative AI.

A native version of Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered has just launched on Nintendo Switch 2, accessible on the eShop. While the game was technically available via backwards compatibly from the Nintendo Switch release, this is a brand new version for the new console supporting enhanced resolution of 1440p at 60 FPS docked and 1080p resolution at 120 FPS in handheld mode. Those who own the Nintendo Switch version will be able to upgrade at no extra charge in a free update coming soon.

That’s not the only piece of news we have here. A new Challenge Mode has also just been made available on all platforms as well, and it also contains new outfits with upgraded abilities, a level modifier to challenge your skills, and all new achievements to earn.
