Medium Armor in Baldur's Gate 3 provides balanced defenses with the option to retain average mobility, influenced by the character's Dexterity (DEX). Medium Armor is ideal for classes that have moderate Dexterity allocation, such as Rangers, Clerics, Druids, and Fighters, granting them a maximum bonus of +2 to the Armor Class. Medium Armor grants defenses against various Enemies and also provides different fixed and random modifiers that affect the player's stats.

Medium Armor and How They Work in BG3
Characters that wear Medium Armour receive +2 Dexterity on top of the equipment's Armor Class (AC), which determines how well the character avoids being wounded in battle. Medium Armor sits in the middle of the AC bonus from equipment and grants decent protection from incoming attacks. Medium Armour works best for characters with minimal dexterity, or any character with access to Medium Armour Proficiency, to receive the category's full benefits.
- A character that wears armor they're not proficient in will receive penalties, such as having disadvantage on their combat efficiency, affecting the Ability Checks, Saving Throws, and even Attack Rolls.
BG3 Medium Armor Dexterity Bonus Explained
When wearing Medium Armour, you gain up to +2 AC from your Dexterity modifier. This is the maximum amount of bonus that the character can gain, regardless of the available max Dexterity. For example, a Character wearing Barkskin Armour with 20 Dexterity will receive +2 Armour Class (AC) from Dexterity, on top of the armour's 12 AC.
Who can wear Medium Armor in Baldur's Gate 3
Some classes determine the character's ability to wear Medium Armor, but some Races, like Githyanki, or Shield Dwarf will allow wearing of Medium Armor proficiency through Racial features. The Moderately Armoured feat will also unlock this proficiency.
Best Medium Armor in Baldur's Gate 3
Adamantine Scale Mail
The Adamantine Scale Mail is one of the best medium armor in the game that provides immunity to Critical Hits, and can reduce incoming damage to 1, with its Magical Plate effect. Like most Medium Armor pieces, however, the Adamantine Scale Mail gives Disadvantage on Stealth checks. This armor is recommended for classes that expect to take a lot of hits from enemies like frontliner Cleric, Fighter, and Paladin.
Yuan-ti Scale Mail
This Medium Armor grants +1 to Initiative Rolls, which determines the first attacker in battles. Yuan-ti Scale Mail also adds the wearer's full Dexterity modifier to Armour Class, does not impose an advantage on Stealth checks, and provide a good amount of defense with its 15 Armour Class.
Hide Armour +2
This Medium Armor grants the wearer a bonus to Initiative Rolls, and a bonus to Dexterity Saving Throws and Checks, that can help save the character from getting out of tricky situations, like wriggling free of bonds, steering a chariot around a tight turn, and other Acrobatics orSleight of Hand attempts. This armor also does not impose a disadvantage on Stealth checks, while providing decent protection at 14 Armour Class.

Baldur's Gate 3 Medium Armor Gallery
AnonymousWant to point out to your description up at the top in the section for Medium Armor and How it works in BG3 is incorrect. You said "Medium Armor works best for characters with 18-20 Dexterity," but that is actually incorrect. A character with 14 Dex, giving a +2 bonus, will have the same AC as a character with an 18 or 20, +4 or +5 bonus, while wearing the same set of Medium Armor as almost all, only 4 total unique pieces in the game with the Exotic Material stat, limit the Dex bonus Max to 2 for AC. So either change the sentence saying "Light Armor works best for characters with 18-20 Dexterity" or "Medium Armor works best for character with 12-14 Dexterity."

AnonymousThe Dark Justiciar Half Plate pages are currently messed up. When you click on the "Rare" variant, it takes you to the "Very Rare" version's page, albeit incorrectly labeled as "Rare". The "Very Rare" version doesn't even have a link.
Basically, the Rare version needs to have a page made for it and the Very Rare needs to link to where the Rare currently links with the rarity changed to be correct.
AnonymousCan confirm Luminous Armor from selunite outpost. Its hidden inside a teapped chest behind a hidden wall near a locked chest.
[Luminous Armor]
Uncommon Medium Armor
15 Armor Class
Radiating Shockwave: When the wearer deals Radiant damage, they Cause a Radiant Shockwave. [Inflict Radiating Orb in a 10ft radius.]
~Many an Adventurer has found themselves swallowed up by the dark throat of some nameless dungeon, Aching for a glimpse of light.
AC Bounus from dexterity limited to +2
(I've done several playbthroughs and I've only gotten this one once I'm not sure if larian added in or maybe it's bc the trap on the chest went off and changed the Armor inside. I'll try to look more into it though.)
AnonymousJust found Luminous Armour from Selunite Outpost, it's not in the wiki.
Medium, 15AC (+2 from DEX)
"Radiating Shockwave: When the wearer deals Radiant damage, they cause a Radiant Shockwave."
AnonymousMissing Elven Chain, sold by Exxvikyap in Rivington. You have proficiency with the armor while wearing it, +2 to initiative, and advantage on dexterity saving throws

AnonymousArmour of Agility, sold by Gloomy Fentonson in Lower City, 17 ac w/ Exotic Materials, that **** is crazy good, 17ac + 5 dex + shield?! Yus please

AnonymousUnwanted Masterwork Scalemail sold by Dammon: 16 AC + dex (no upper cap), better than yuan-ti

AnonymousIf you are a ranger and find the yuan-ti scale mail you are set. Few armor sets are better for a dex based character.

AnonymousThere is a visual bug with the Yuan-ti Scale Mail that causes the chainmail on your arms to *grow* and extend to stick out past your elbows like another set of arms xD There is no page for the armor yet so I'm just adding it here in case someone sees it *shrug*

AnonymousSo any race with +1 to Dexterity, will be able to use medium armour to be equal to that of the "best" Heavy Armour.
16 Dex gives a +3 AC modifier. So every Medium Armour 13 will give a total of 16, and anything above that, well gives more.

The "best armor" section is not super accurate. Did someone use ai to add to this page? It probably would be just as easy to scan the list and find the actual best armors.
