Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling but face heavy competition for his signature.

Andoni Iraola will be pushing for more signings ahead of Tuesday's deadline day after watching his Reds make a disappointing start to the season. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Newcastle United and similarly settled on the same scoreline against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.

The Merseysiders finally got their man after agreeing on an £120 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain for left-winger Bradley Barcola. But Iraola's transfer chiefs are exploring the market for a new right-winger following Mohamed Salah's departure earlier this summer.

Liverpool could turn to Leweling, who is one to watch in the final days of the summer transfer window. A report from Sky Sport Germany's Patrick Berger claims that AS Roma are also keen on the German but failed with their offer to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy worth over €40 million (£34.2m).

Leweling has also attracted interest from other top European clubs, including Liverpool, rivals Everton, and Serie A giants Inter Milan. Roma are prepared to hand him a lucrative five-year contract but have failed to convince Stuttgart with their proposal.

The 25-year-old's stock has grown in the Bundesliga, having arrived at MHPArena from Union Berlin back in the summer of 2024. He has been capped six times by Germany and made this summer's World Cup squad.

It's unclear whether Liverpool will make a concrete move for Leweling before the window closes but he is an interesting option. His versatility has seen him play out on the right and left wing as well as in more central attacking positions.

The Nuremberg-born attacker put up impressive numbers last season, helping Stuttgart finish fourth in the Bundesliga. With other clubs eyeing the six-foot-one-inch winger's signature, it could make for an auction of sorts.

Liverpool's Other Option

Liverpool are clearly looking to add another winger to Iraola's squad, although Victor Munoz has made a positive start to his Anfield career. The young Spaniard scored a vital equaliser in his side's 2-2 draw against Forest on Saturday.

Bringing a more experienced wideman to Merseyside seems to be a priority for Iraola and his staff. Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr remains on their shortlist despite failing with an initial £50m bid to try and prise the 28-year-old away from Selhurst Park.

Liverpool transfer targets

  • Ismaila Sarr - Crystal Palace don't want to sell
  • Jamie Leweling - Joined race for German winger
  • Yakuba Minteh - Brighton's price too high

One winger who won't be joining the Reds is Brighton & Hove Albion's Yakuba Minteh. The Seagulls want £80m for the 22-year-old and

Anfield chiefs aren't prepared to match that fee.
