Nottingham Forest have seen a big money offer for a Liverpool star rejected, with youngster Trey Nyoni having become a target for the East Midlands side.
Forest are hoping for a busy end to the summer window, with the transfer window closing at 11pm on Tuesday. Oliver Glasner has already snatched up former Crystal Palace full-back Daniel Muñoz on a good-looking deal, but he will want more.
That's despite Forest having had a pretty busy window, snapping up Liam Delap, Ousmane Diomande, Gustavo Sá, Xaver Schlager and and Steven Benda. Glasner seems to be looking for a new midfielder ahead of the deadline, and they have set their eyes on Liverpool youngster Nyoni, who is still only 19 years of age, but they have come up short with a big offer.
Paul Joyce has reported: "Nottingham Forest have had a bid of £25 million, plus £5 million in add-ons, rejected for Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni. Nyoni, 19, is viewed as a valued member of Andoni Iraola's squad."
Nyoni has only made seven Premier League appearances for Liverpool to date, but Iraola has a history of bringing in and using young players, so it's no surprise to see him showing full belief in a younger talent.
That's not good news for Forest, who appear to have been met with a firm no, so it's likely they won't bother coming in with a new offer. If Nyoni is seen as a key player then it's likely Liverpool will command huge money to sell, likely more than Forest are willing to pay, even this late in the window.
Iraola clearly thinks a lot of Nyoni
Iraola has heavily praised Nyoni recently, saying: "Trey is very good on the ball, very calm, he reads the situations well. He is always confident on the ball… because he can do it, because he is so, so good.
"He doesn’t feel this pressure… he asks for that ball and he’s confident; he doesn’t rush. For me, that is very valuable. Trey, he’s a top, top player… He’s a top bloke and an unbelievable player. You talk about football intelligence on the pitch, he’s got it and then some. You can see why he’s going to have a bright future in the game.”
