Helmet Mods in The Outer Worlds 2 are special upgrades that enhance or modify the performance of Head Armor pieces. These modifications can be applied to available mod slots at a Workbench, allowing players to customize their gear to better suit their playstyle. Unlike Weapon Mods, Head Armor Mods primarily provide passive bonuses, such as improved resistances or defensive perks, rather than direct combat enhancements. Once installed, however, Head Armor Mods are permanent and cannot be removed or replaced.
How to Attach Mods in The Outer Worlds 2
Mods in The Outer Worlds 2 can only be attached at a Workbench, which serves as the main hub for weapon and armor customization. Once you access a workbench, the Modification Menu will appear, displaying your equipped items on the left, the list of available Mods in the center, and detailed descriptions on the right side of the screen.
Each Mod type can only be installed on compatible equipment, Weapon Mods apply exclusively to weapons, while Armor Mods and Helmet Mods are reserved for headgear or body armor. Attempting to use a Mod on the wrong category will disable the installation option.

To begin modifying your gear, select the piece of equipment you wish to enhance. When you highlight an item, all compatible Mods you currently own will appear in the list. Choose the desired Mod, review its description, and confirm the upgrade to apply it. Once installed, the Mod becomes permanently fused to that item, replacing or occupying one of its available sockets.
Keep in mind that not all equipment has the same number of modification slots. The number of available sockets is displayed beneath the item’s name on the left side of the screen. Some gear may already include built-in Mods when found or purchased. Items labeled with “Premium” in their name feature gold-filled sockets, indicating they contain high-grade, pre-installed Mods that cannot be replaced.
The Outer Worlds 2 Helmet Mods
Head Armor Mods enhance a character’s awareness, tactical advantages, or resilience during combat. They are divided broadly into Utility and Resistance types, each catering to a distinct playstyle.
Utility mods typically grant conditional bonuses triggered by combat scenarios. Ammo Catcher provides a small chance to recover ammunition when hit by ranged attacks, effectively rewarding players who take calculated risks in firefights. Cloak Driver fits stealth builds perfectly, granting temporary camouflage after a successful sneak attack and turning subsequent strikes into guaranteed stealth hits. Automated ATP Injectors activate when the wearer’s health drops below half, offering a burst of speed to escape or reposition during critical moments. Similarly, Breakdown Kit appeals to scavengers, offering chances to recover crafting materials both when dismantling items and upon defeating enemies.

Resistance mods focus more on survival and combat endurance. Between the Eyes builds up damage potential over time when the wearer is not attacking, making it ideal for players who prefer a tactical pause before unleashing powerful strikes. Anklebiter enhances slide distance and damage while sliding, turning mobility into offense. Critical Exploit improves critical hit chance against weakened enemies and accelerates the weakening process itself, rewarding precision and timing. Meanwhile, Commander's Profile reinforces teamwork by providing damage resistance after using a companion’s special ability, and Ammo Hoarder grants passive health regeneration during combat that scales with the amount of ammo carried.
