a few points in polymorph is always good, like most abilities.
but for mages that specialize in one element its really good to put in a few more points in. you basically switch a secondary element to do a little less damage for your main element to hit even harder (for necro you still do more with warfare) or to get more spellslots or being a little earlier on turns.

      you also get abilities:
      - Chameleon gives you an option to get the first hit or a "free jail" effect
      - Flay Skin helps your team hit harder on magic damage
      - Apotheosis and Skin graft let you take more actions/ reset cooldowns.
and some more but those are the most important.

either this is just an exploit that i am able to do because of some of my mods (Namely, unbound skill caps: all attr. and skills go up to 100, Portable respec mirror, DE addon: fort joy respec mirror), but when i am at the mirror and spec into poly, invest my attr. points, close the magic mirror, i get X more PERMANENT points depending on my poly level. when i spec out of poly the attribute points stay and the process can be done again and again for unlimited permanent attribute points.

"This Ability is a great way to get extra Attribute points that can increase damage, even if you don't use any Skills from this line." If you're going to go into polymorph just for the attribute point, you might as well pick up a few of the skills as well. Wings, Chicken Claw, Bull Rush, Chameleon Cloak... It's a very good skill tree.
