Playing through Mob of the Dead in 2026? You might want to complete something that you never could before, with that being the Mob of the Dead easter egg! We've made this updated MOTD easter egg guide so you can follow a step-by-step process to completing the easter egg so you can break the cycle, or continue it. You'll find a full walkthrough of the steps below, so you know exactly what to do!
The Mob of the Dead easter egg can only be completed in co-op (2+ players). Or, if you have Plutonium, you can install Mob of the Dead Easter Egg Solo (Improved) with the link provided to complete this easter egg as a solo player.
Mob of the Dead Easter Egg Steps Overview
- Obtain the Warden's Key.
- Feed the three Cerberus heads to get the Hell's Retriever.
- Use the Hell's Retriever to collect 5 blue skills and get the Blundergat.
- Build the plane and head to the Golden Gate Bridge.
- Collect the Spoon.
- Refuel the plane and use it three more times.
- Use Afterlife to input these numbers into the number pad in the Citadel Tunnels: 101, 872, 481, 386.
- Follow the Headphones toward the roof.
- Use Afterlife and enter the plane.
- Fight Weasel or fight the mobsters.
Step #1: Get the Warden's Key

The Warden's Key will be found hanging above the Warden's Office or the Cafeteria entrance. To get the key, you need to use Afterlife at the location where the key can be found, then go through the glowing ghost door so you can electrocute the panel on the wall. Then, revive yourself and pick up the Warden's Key:
- Warden's Office - Head right through Broadway and use Afterlife opposite the Warden's Office entrance, where you can hold jump to enter above and zap the electrical panel.
- Cafeteria - Head opposite the Showers and enter Afterlife, where you can use a long-press jump to mantle into the ghost room and zap the electrical panel.
Step #2: Obtain the Hell's Retriever

There are three drawings of a Cerberus dog head on the walls. You need to kill a zombie at these locations to spawn Cerberus, and then you need to kill 6 zombies at each head so they teleport away. These Cerberus locations are as follows:
- Near the B23R Wall-Buy in the Broadway Cell Block.
- In the Infirmary, by the door to the Roof.
- Near the workbench in the Docks, under the walkway.
Once all three heads have been fed, head to the Citadel Tunnels. On the right, there's now an open room where you can pick up the Hell's Retriever, which acts as your new tactical weapon (L1/LB).
Step #3: Collect Five Blue Skills to Get the Free Blundergat
With the Hell's Retriever obtained, there will now be five secret skulls on the map. These are not visible outside of Afterlife, but if you throw the Hell's Retriever specifically where we show you, then you'll be fine:
- Outside the Library, on the toilet in the first cell on the right.
- To the right of Speed Cola in the Warden's Office, on the top of the phone pole.
- On the Roof, in the back left corner above the lamp.
- Opposite Jugger-Nog in the left corner, where you need to jump and throw the Hell's Retriever at the lamp.
- In the Docks, to the right of the Mystery Box on the second wooden pillar from the left.
With all five blue skulls collected, you can head to the Warden's Office. Upon interacting with the table inside the Warden's Office, a Blundergat will form, and you can pick it up as your new weapon.
You need this Blundergat specifically for the easter egg step, as obtaining one from the Mystery Box will not count.
Step #4: Build the Plane and Head to the Golden Gate Bridge
You now need to build the plane, which has a total of five parts:
The Engine

Use Afterlife above the Warden's Office and follow it to the right to zap an electric panel. Now, use Afterlife at the Docks in Building 64 to zap the three activated generators. Finally, head to the Warden's Office and use the key on the cell on the right as you enter to pick up the Engine.
The Sheets
Use Afterlife opposite the Showers to find a ghost door you can enter. Look up at the pipes and zap the electrical panel, then head into the Showers and zap the panel opposite the laundry machine. Interact with the laundry machine to start a 30-second lockdown to pick up the Sheets when it ends.
The Rigging
Head to the Citadel Tunnels, and at the bottom of the stairs, you can unlock the number pad with the Warden's Key. Use Afterlife at the top of the stairs and look to the left wall as you go down the stairs to find three numbers. Input those numbers at the number pad and revive yourself, where you can then head into the elevator below to get the Rigging.
The Gas Tanks
In the Docks, there's an Afterlife panel. Stand here and activate the power switch, and you can then pick up the Gas Tanks. You now need to use Afterlife again to free yourself from the room by zapping the same power switch.
The Valves
In the Infirmary, there's a locked cabinet that you can just interact with thanks to the Warden's Key to grab the Gas Tanks.
The Plane

With all five parts acquired, use Afterlife in the Infirmary. With your back to the Roofs, head right to find a secret room you can enter, and climb through where you can zap the rooftop's power switch. Return to your body and build the plane on the runway. You can now take the plane to the Golden Gate Bridge, and after 30-seconds, an electric chair spawns that you can use to get back to Alcatraz.
Step #5: Collect the Spoon
Once you've returned to Alcatraz after using the plane, you're going to want to head toward the Warden's Office. On the cell to the right closest to the Warden's Office, you'll see a movie poster. You can throw the Hell's Retriever at the movie poster to reveal a secret wall.
Outside the Warden's Office is an Afterlife station, and you can use it to access the new ghostly hole in the wall. Look down, and you'll find a spoon that you can electrocute to teleport it to the Cafeteria.
Head to the Cafeteria and to the left of the crafting table, you'll find a metal shelf just outside the zombie barrier. You can throw the Hell's Retriever at this shelf to collect the spoon.
Step #6: Refuel the Plane and Visit the Golden Gate Bridge Two More Times
In each of the areas where you found a plane part, you will now find a gas can. You need to pick up all five gas cans and interact with the plane to refuel it. This will allow you to head to Pack-a-Punch again. You need to repeat this step until you've returned to Pack-a-Punch three times.
Step #7: Input the Mobster Prison Numbers Into the Number Pad

After you return to Alcatraz after visiting the Golden Gate Bridge a total of three times, head down the spiral stairs in the Citadel Tunnels to see that the number pad is now flashing with random numbers. Use Afterlife from the top of the stairs and input the four numbers on the playable characters' prison suits:
- 101
- 872
- 481
- 386
After each number has been entered correctly, the number pad will blink and change digits. Remember, being in Afterlife without reviving yourself will kill you, so repeat this step across two Afterlife uses instead of dying!
Step #8: Follow the Headphones
When the mobster numbers have been entered, and you've revived yourself, Brutus the Warden will talk to you, and the screen will turn black and white. There's narration from Stanley Ferguson, and you will find a headphones power-up on the staircase in the Citadel Tunnels. You need to pick up the headphones and listen to the narration, and when it ends, the next set of headphones spawns:
- Close to Double Tap Root Beer.
- On the walkway between the Warden's Office and the Cafeteria.
- In the staircase from the Cafeteria to the Infirmary.
- On the staircase to the rooftop.
Step #9: Enter Afterlife and Use the Plane
Once all 5 headphones have been collected, it's time to prepare for the boss fight. When you're ready, you need to head to the Infirmary and enter Afterlife, and then interact with the plane. The plane does not need to be refueled, and if you've done the steps above, you'll enter the plane in Afterlife mode.
Step #10: Break or Continue the Cycle

When you spawn at the Golden Gate Bridge, you need to revive yourself at the electric chair. At this point, the boss fight will begin. It's now a PvP fight where Weasel has to beat the mobsters, or the mobsters have to beat Weasel. Both outcomes will end the game, but here's what happens in both endings:
- The Cycle Continues — If Weasel is killed by the mobsters, the cycle continues, and the loop remains in place with all four mobsters waking in Alcatraz at the start of Mob of the Dead, having no memory of almost escaping.
- The Cycle is Broken — If Weasel kills the four mobsters, the cycle is broken, which ends the loop and changes the fate of the multiverse as seen in Blood of the Dead, the canonical sequel to Zetsubou no Shima.
Regardless of your choice, you will all get the Pop Goes the Weasel achievement!
Regardless if the cycle is broken or continues, you can repeat all Black Ops 2 Zombies easter eggs with these guides to help:
