How to Enter Jaheira's Basement in Baldur's Gate 3

When you enter Jaheira's study, you have to pass a perception test to discover the "Pin Slot", which opens the Insert Item dialog shown above. Insert the Harp-Shaped Pin acquired from Tate, a child on hiding in one of the rooms on the 2nd Floor of Elerrathin's Home, to reveal the entrance to Jaheira's Basement.

The Harp-Shaped Pin can also be acquired in these three other areas:

  • Act I: At the Grymforge, you can loot Jhaam's corpse to get this item (X: -633 Y: 385)
  • Act II: In Moonrise Towers Prison, look for a pile of viscera in the Oubliette (X: 625 Y: -100)
  • Act III: Inside a mahogany casket in the Mortuary (X: 40 Y: 30)

Note that bringing Jaheira with you will disable the traps that will otherwise impede your progress through this area, and also provide a bunch of additional dialog.

Jaheira's Basement Location Walkthrough in Baldur's Gate

Later, once inside the Basement, you'll find a set of Loose Planks behind a DC 20 perception check, which hide the key to the bookcase door. The planks are protected by a DC 15 trap that you'll need to disarm to retrieve the key.

Jaheira's gear is hidden behind the bookcase, which you'll detect as a hidden door if you succeed on a DC 15 Perception check. You can either use the key under the Loose Planks or succeed on a DC 18 Lockpicking check to unlock the door. Behind it are an Opulent Chest containing Staff of the Ram and Belm, and a Display Case containing Khalid's Gift

There's also a "Rite of the Timeless Body" scroll on a table. After reading it, you can ask Jaheira about it for some more dialog, though no apparent gameplay benefit.

  • You can disable the traps at the entrance if a character succeeds at the Difficulty Class DC15 Arcana Check upon interacting with any of the nearby orbs.
  • Alternatively, there is a crate that's putting weight onto a nearby pressure plate before the traps path. Destroying this crate will disable the traps.
  • Bringing Jaheira back to her home will disable all the traps in the basement and change the dialogues from her family.
  • Retrieving Jaheira's Legendary Items will expand dialogue options later when speaking to Jaheira, allowing the party to ask her about her past.

Anybody knows if the Rite of the Timeless Body scroll on the table found at the end of the basement area does anything or is part of any storyline in the game?

Funny how Jaheira says there's nothing worthwhile poking around in the secret door inside, and you found 3 super rare item for free inside

The way this is written is confusing and makes it seem like the Harp Shaped Pin is the key hidden under the loose planks and the basement entrance is through the hidden bookcase, they are in fact two entirely different things, the hidden key/bookcase is in the lower level basement, the Harp Shaped Pin to access the basement is not "found on the 2nd floor", it's obtained by talking to the child on the 2nd floor
