How to Enter City Sewers in BG3
| Point of Entry | Location | How to Access |
| Ladder | Basilisk Gate Barracks, Lower City (X-1263, Y:744) | Go inside the Barracks, and head to the Heapside Prison. Explore the area on the southwestern side and look for a manhole past the break room. |
| Ladder | Elfsong Tavern, Lower City | Go inside the Elfsong Tavern, also in Lower City. Go to the kitchen area and use the stairs to go to the basement. There are several rats in the area, but you can use an AoE spell to destroy them. Open the door at the back, to the left, and look for the button on the wall to access the main door. Go inside the main door and pass through the large barrel, then open the door to reach the Knights of the Shield Hideout. Go to the area behind the throne, and if you succeed a Perception check, you'll find the switch that leads to a hidden room, and the hatch that will take you to the City Sewers. |
| Manhole | Basilisk Gate Entrance, Lower City (X: 126, Y-33) | Head to the Basilisk Gate Waypoint in the eastern area of Lower City. Look for the manhole beneath the arch, and you'll find a breakable wall on the western side. Break this wall with blunt force damage to reach the City Sewers. |
| Manhole | An alley in the western Lower City Alley (X: -161, Y: -64) | To the west of the docks, and near Golbraith's Home in Lower City, look for a manhole there and use it to reach the City Sewers. This path takes you near Aelis Siryasius' location. |
| Wall | Flymm Cargo Basement, Lower City | Go inside the Flymm Cargo Building and destroy or move around the boxes in the northwestern section to reveal a hatch. Open the door to the Detention Block and head west, where you will see a marker that reads "Greasy, Smell Way, Down". Characters that go down this path will head straight to City Sewers. |
| Bookcase | Nine Fingers' Office, Guildhall | Inside the Guildhall, go to the bar area, then enter Nine Fingers' office. Examine the Bookcase and pass the Difficulty Class DC 20 Sleight of Hand (Dexterity) check to open it. Go inside the new area and take the ladder down. Follow the path to find a lever on the wall. Pull this lever to reach the City Sewers, but be careful of the traps. |
| Gate | Cazador's Dungeon | Located inside Szarr Palace. Unblock the Crypt Gate that is sealed with an Entombing Clot magic. This can only be opened by using the Szarr Family Ring, found on the first floor of the palace. |

BG3 City Sewers Location Walkthrough
Arabella's Cave
You can find Arabella (See BG3 map) on the western section of the City Sewers, surrounded by the corpses of Brigand Harrold, Livin' Large Timbo, Woodchips Grant, and Ogreboy Colum. When you interact with her, she does not seem to mind the bodies and focuses on examining the stone before her. You can learn that the stone is magical with a successful DC 15 Arcana check or by using Detect Thoughts on her. This reveals information that the stone has records of all those who passed by it, and you'll learn of past events that Arabella has seen through it.
By talking to Arabella, you can also ask her about the bandits, and she'll tell you that they tried to attack her. On the way to the cave, you can discover a buried chest if you succeed a DC15 Survival check. This chest contains gold, Valuables, and a random Very Rare Spell scroll.
Aelis and a funeral for a friend
Return to the door where you first encountered the Penitent Trader and then proceed to the other end of the hall that will lead you back to Lower City Sewers. There's a big door blocking your path so you can either have Astarion attempt a Dexterity check here or go around the other path to encounter NPCs and discover a ladder that will lead to Szarr Palace, Lady Jannath's Estate, and Lorroakan's Portals.
Continue exploring the depths of the Sewers from this path, and you will encounter Aelis Siryasius, who has a profound fear or hate, or both, for Absolutists and plans on turning you into kindling for a funeral pyre. You can try to convince him that you're not with the Absolute, then Aelis will continue blabbering about how he and his group were the best thieves in Baldur's Gate, and they have stashed their loot in the Sewers, where they are currently safe, while the Absolutists search for them.
However, the rest of his group had joined the cult, as Aelis believes, and he killed them. So now he wants to conduct the funeral rites for Sarin's final resting place. This will allow Aelis to leave you alone and will not attack you for now. However, if you take him out, you will be able to gain access to his treasure and solve the Sarin's Skeleton puzzle.

There is a door right next to where you encounter Aelis. Have Astarion lockpick this and attempt a Dexterity check. To pass, he will need a DC of 10. This will reveal a path to the raft in the sewers, and use it to move forward. This will take you to a path closer to the Lord of Murder's domain. As you jump off, switch into turn-based mode as there are traps set here that will explode on contact.
Upon opening the doors, the Night Blades will immediately become hostile as soon as they see your party enter the room. Eliminate all the enemies that you see here and continue exploring the Sewers until you reach a room filled with Noxious Fumes. On the right side of the wall, look for the lever that will dispel the fumes. Continue to work your way on the right side and dispel the traps that you see by attempting Dexterity Checks.

Then, jump on the crack on the wall, right on top of the lever that you just deactivated. You will see a breakable wall here and destroy that with Eldritch Blast or other spellcasting abilities to reveal a ladder out of the Sewers.
Guildhall Entry from Lower City Sewers
Continue exploring the depths of the Sewers, and once you reach the Guild Hall at (X:-12 Y:774), you will see a door with the description "No Entry - No Exit". You can attempt a Dexterity check, but you will need to pass a DC of 20. This will give you access to the Guildhall Bar. Directly to your right, you will see Lady Ague who will threaten to kill you, should you cross Nine-Fingers. There are other members of the guild gathered here as well as Merchants and other NPCs who offer their services.

Going to the Abandoned Cistern from City Sewers
The quickest way to access the Abandoned Cistern is by entering the City Sewers from the Flymm Cargo Basement, located at (X:-1095 Y:337). Interact with the crack in the wall with the description "A greasy, smelly climb down..." and this will take you directly to a trapped path with locked chests in the area.
If you have Astarion with you, switch to turn-based and have him look around to scout for traps and pick the locks on the chests. These chests can be unlocked either by passing a Dexterity or Strength check DC of 20.
When you're done going through the chests, take a dip in the sewer water and follow its flow, but enemies are waiting for you on the other side, so make sure that you are prepared to fight them. Eliminate the enemies perched on the tower and then carefully make your way to the top to surround them. When you're done fighting them, your next task is to solve the Sluice Gate Puzzle. You can find the complete guide here.

Going to the Undercity from City Sewers
After solving the Sluice Gate Puzzle in the Abandoned Cistern, you will find a door at (X:-164 Y:879), directly in front of you, There's a loose stone that can be detected if you pass the Perception check. To the right of the corridor, you can open the door that will take you to the other side of the sewers.
You can reach the Undercity Ruins by walking the opposite way from the door you just opened. Make sure to move close to the Waypoint so you can unlock it and then, at the foot of the stairs, you will find a trader by the name of Bareki, a Voiceless Penitent. You can also find a pouch behind him which contains Sarin's skull.

The Undercity is where pivotal events will take place, including an encounter with Orin at the Temple of Bhaal.

- Notes and Tips for City Sewers go here.
- The Waypoint in City Sewers is located in (X: -99 Y: 777)
- If you let Arabella take Wither's advice, you can now find her in City Sewers, or the Arabella Cave section.
- If Arabella survives to Act III, the player can talk to her to find out about the bodies that surround her, and adds an update to the quest Gather Your Allies.
- Next to Kobold's corpse, there is a hidden chest.

- In the sewer, you can find a mad mage and a headless skeleton in a coffin. To find the missing Sarin's Skull, go to the Undercity Ruins, and check the Pouch behind the Penitent Trader. (Near X-157, Y943)

- Return the skull back to Sarin's coffin (Near X-122, Y831). And you get the reward Magic Amulet. (Bring back Sarin' skull may trigger a fight with the mad mage.)

- Lower City Sewers has a path towards its northern area that leads to the Undercity Ruins.
- If you opt to help Kith'rak Voss with his quest, you may find him on the docks section of the City Sewers. If the party possesses the Orphic Hammer, they will receive the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane, and will update the Gather Your Allies quest with a successful recruit.
- During Act 3, Orin will kidnap one of your companions (or Yenna) under various circumstances. The easiest trigger is exploring the city sewers.
- Orin's kidnapping can also be triggered while exploring the City Sewers, she can only kidnap someone who is not currently in your team. If you do not want to trigger the kidnapping, avoid getting close to the Undercity Ruins waypoint, and the exit leads to Guildhall.
AnonymousThat ****ing pipe in the goddamn abandoned cistern needs to be fixed or removed! I've never had so many damn blockages to movement, line of sight, attack lines and just the ability to complete actions (can't get a single berzerk ba attack to actually happen, just endless pump fakes). Prolly the most infuriating bugs this playthrough.

Anonymous(spoilers for astarion's quest) you can also find gandrel the vampire hunter at x:-89;y:781 with his two daughters if you've stopped the ritual and freed vampire spawns to go to the underdark

AnonymousIs there anyway to fix the pumps in the cistern so public water fountains run again above ground?
