In Crimson Desert, Thick Hide can be obtained by hunting and skinning giant mammals like rhinoceros, elephants, and bears found in the wild.
Players can also purchase Thick Hides from Tannery merchants for a small price, though stock is limited and it takes time for these shops to refresh.
How to Get Thin Hide in Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, players can get Thin Hide by hunting and skinning small mammals found all over the world.
How to Get Thick Hides in Crimson Desert
As mentioned before, there are only two ways to get Thick Hides in Crimson Desert.
- Hunt and Skin Giant Mammals
- Buy from Tannery
Giant Mammals
Players can get Thick Hides by killing and skinning rhinos, elephants, and bears. Rhinoceros and elephants are both found in the Crimson Desert, in the northeast corner of the map, while bears can be found in the forests of Hernand and the surrounding regions.
In addition to Thick Hide, rhinos and elephants also drop Ivory when skinned, another valuable crafting material.
Buy from Tannery
Thick Hides are sold at some Tanneries for 20 Coppers apiece, with a default stock of 3 at any given time. Tannery merchants restock once every 5 in-game days (10 hours in real time).
Thick Hides are not available for sale at all Tanneries in the game. The Hernand Tannery run by Bran has them in stock, for instance, but the Delesyia Tannery does not.
Best Thick Hide Farming Methods in Crimson Desert
Thick Hide Farming Method #1
The best farming spot for Thick Hides is in the Crimson Desert, near the Abyss Nexus, right above the “C” of Crimson on the map. Here’s how this works.
-
Head to the location shown on the map above and unlock the Abyss Nexus.
- Look southeast, and you’ll spot a small herd of rhinos standing in an open field.
-
Hunt and skin these rhinoceros to get Thick Hides.
-
Open the map and go to the “Factions” tab.
- Select any visible faction nearby and double-click LMB (PC) or press Triangle/Y (Controller) to open its 3D render.
-
Exit out of the map menu and return to the game.
-
Look to the clearing again, and you’ll see that there is a new herd of rhinos in the spot you just cleared.
- Kill the rhinos and skin them once again to get more Thick Hides.
- Repeat this process as many times as required to get the desired amount of Thick Hides.
The “View 3D Stronghold Details on the Map” option under Language and Gameplay in Options needs to be set to “On” for this method to work.
Fast traveling to the nearby Abyss Nexus also resets the rhino spawns, but doing so takes longer than the map method.
If the rhinos are not spawning when you exit the map, you’re likely standing directly on top of their spawn zone. Move a bit to the side and try again.
Thick Hide Farming Method #2
If the Crimson Desert area is too far from you and you don’t want to walk the distance, you can instead use the same farming trick to hunt and skin bears in Hernand. Here’s how this works.
-
Head to the location shown in the map above, southeast of Unicorn Cliff, to reach an Abyss Nexus overlooking a large open clearing.
- Look around the clearing, and you’ll spot a lone bear standing in a field of white flowers.
-
Kill the bear and skin it to get Thick Hides.
-
Open the map and go to the “Factions” tab.
- Select any visible faction nearby and double-click LMB (PC) or press Triangle/Y (Controller) to open its 3D render.
-
Exit out of the map menu and return to the game.
- The bear will now have respawned, allowing you to kill and skin it again to get more Thick Hides.
- Repeat this process as many times as required to get the desired amount of Thick Hides.
The Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger increases the yield of hides obtained from skinning animals by 10%. Here’s a guide on how to get it.
