Arts and Culture Mentorship: Be a Mentee! Apply for the Hurford Center's Arts and Culture Mentorship program! In this program, students form intentional relationships with professionals working in arts, culture, and adjacent creative industries across the East Coast — from nonprofits and publishing houses to museums, marketing firms, and film production companies. Over the school year, you'll get: -  5 one-on-one sessions (1–1.5 hrs) with your mentor, focused on their career path and your next steps - A year-long career development program: workshops, panels, and cohort-based fellowship experiences for arts & humanities students - Who can apply: Seniors from any Greater Philadelphia area college or university, and recent graduates in the Philadelphia region. I spent this past summer interning with the Philadelphia Department of Revenue through the Mayor's Internship Program, and I’m so grateful for everything I learned along the way! Throughout the summer, I worked on projects involving data analysis, operational improvement, and fiscal transparency. One of my favorite experiences was presenting at the MIP Innovation Showcase, where I shared my research on how taxpayer communication and fiscal transparency can help strengthen public trust and civic engagement. I especially enjoyed applying economic concepts to real-world projects while learning more about local government, public service, and the work that goes into serving a city. A special thank you to my supervisor, ShaRonn Mitchell, MS, SHRM-SCP, for his mentorship, support, and guidance throughout the summer, and to everyone at the Department of Revenue who made this experience so meaningful. Above all, I'm grateful for the relationships I built and the many people I had the opportunity to learn from along the way. The City of Philadelphia will always have a special place in my heart!

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with the City of Philadelphia's Department of Revenue through the Mayor's Internship Program. One of the biggest skills I developed was R programming. I used R with Census and ACS data to build a benchmarking analysis comparing Philadelphia with peer cities across measures including population, income, poverty, education, and housing. The project involved cleaning and organizing data, building repeatable scripts, checking results, and turning large datasets into useful comparisons. I also researched emerging tax policies, including approaches to taxing the digital economy, and completed a larger project examining how cities and regions across the country use dedicated tax revenue to fund homelessness services. For that project, I compared different tax structures and revenue sources, wrote a research memo, and presented my findings to senior Finance and Revenue staff. I also had the chance to present some of my work at the MIP Showcase as part of the Kristie Chin's Innovation Team’s highlight of work interns took on across the City. Outside of my own projects, I helped with an event focused on AI in local government with Data-Smart City Solutions, volunteered at Philabundance, and had plenty of opportunities to engage in cross-city data sharing and mapping initiatives, and to meet and learn from people working across City government. I’m very thankful to everyone at the Philadelphia Department of Revenue and MIP who made this summer such a positive experience. A special thank you to Kae Anderson, Rebecca Lopez Kriss, Jack Denison, Pranava Kadiyala and Elías Gonzalez for all of their guidance, feedback, and willingness to answer my many questions throughout the summer, and to my fellow interns. I’m especially grateful to have been trusted with meaningful work and given the opportunity to contribute to work that matters to the City.
