Adventure films – a glimpse of the world and why the genre matters more than ever
When Nordic Adventure Film Festival (NAFF – locally know as Danish Adventure film Festival) the 1st of December 2015, open our doors for our 20th anniversary festival we are proud to present an adventure film festival dedicated to make a non-commercial effort for the adventure film scene.
Our festival is organized by adventure film makers for adventure film makers and has since we first opened our doors in 1996 been organized with dedicated partners, in the name of supporting adventure film makers, celebrate and developing the adventure film scene as a whole, and in the end giving the local scene better tools for making and promoting adventure films.
For this year’s festival our plan as the organizer committee, is to do more of what we have been doing for the past 20 years. That is putting the worlds best adventure film on the big screen, and in the process giving local filmmakers a voice. The goal this year is to expand the festival to other corners of the Nordic countries where commercial film tours do not reach. We want to seek out and bring together adventure filmmakers from the entire Nordic region, in celebration of their work and effort.
As you probably know, Europe is at the moment in the middle of a huge refuge crisis. A crisis that is developing and evolving day by day. A crisis that concerns us all. As adventure people we are used to travel around the world and have been invited into different cultures with open arms, even in the most remote areas. NAFF has therefore decided to give back to the people that have given us so much and in addition to our stated goals, make an effort this year to support the understanding of the crisis, putting initiates up to support the people on the run, promoting dialog and understanding. How this will be put in effect are still in the planning stages, put we hereby state that we will put this year’s energy and revenue into trying to do our small share of solving the crisis.
Cultural awareness, environment protection and understanding on global problems is as such in the DNA of the festival. And we are glad to see several of the filmmakers who have contributed with films during the years, right now is actively involved in telling the story of the state of the complex world we live in.
On behalf on Nordic Adventure Film Festival,
Bugge Holm Hansen.
