I have more than 20 years of experience working in the field of education and innovation in both advisory and industry roles. Today I work as Director of Tech Futures & Innovation and Senior Futurist at the Copenhagen Institute of Futures Studies. Mostly with tasks decoding our modern society’s needs at the intersection between education, technology, innovation and management.
Academically I am a master's in Educational Science & Semiotics, combined with years of consultancy work. In addition, I have been part of several think tanks and political committees. To realise the first national outdoor policy in Denmark, from a catalog of ideas to legislative proposals in the Danish Ministry of Environment’s network for outdoor policy. To being head of the Think Tank: MAGS for Danish Independent Magazines Publishers.
I have been working and living abroad several times; 5 years in Argentina, and 4 years in Spain, not to mention some years in Norway and France. I now reside in Copenhagen.

Bugge Holm Hansen delte detteThe new report from Elon University’s Imagining the Digital Future Center is out, and I am pleased to have contributed as one of the expert participants. What stands out to me most in this report is not the finer details, which only a few readers will fully immerse themselves in, but the broader message. Many of the experts involved, myself included, point to the need for a stronger and more coordinated societal response to the age of artificial intelligence, not only to manage technical risks, but also to strengthen the human and institutional capacity needed to navigate rapid change. One of the most important insights, in my view, is that the main concern is not a single dramatic AI failure or sudden rupture. It is something more gradual, and therefore easier to overlook. As AI becomes more deeply embedded in everyday life and key societal systems, there is a risk that human agency is slowly diminished, making it harder for individuals and institutions to question developments, challenge decisions, or even recognise what is quietly being lost. That kind of shift can easily be mistaken for progress. But over time, it may erode judgement, accountability, our shared sense of reality, and the social foundations on which democratic societies depend. But there is another layer to this report that could easily be missed. If change can be mistaken for progress without truly being progress, then it raises a more fundamental question: what does real progress actually look like? That is the conversation I personally hope this report will help bring forward. That said, I do not see myself as being in the prediction business, but I am grateful to have been included in such a strong group of contributors to making this massive 375-page report. Bugge Holm Hansen delte dette“The future isn’t coming, it’s here and it feels like a tsunami. Transformative technologies are converging, disrupting industries and society in mere moments. This is a tsunami of change, and the question is no longer whether we can adapt, but how individuals, organizations and institutions can ride it and build a future of abundance.” This is how Dr Mark van Rijmenam opens his latest book, and I think we can all relate to that. Reflections on the book. I find myself thinking about the state of foresight here in 2026. Our field has clearly gone mainstream, and there is undoubtedly a massive market for books like this. Books that invite the reader into the world of futurists in an accessible and frictionless way. Just the other day, I was frustrated after a dialogue with another brilliant futurist. While his writing is so explorative about the future of foresight, he insists on a level of precision that makes his writing stiff. Where is the balance? Do we aim for reach or precision? It is a question I struggle with myself. Mark’s book is not a deep exploration of futures studies, but it is an open invite to our way of thinking that many will appreciate. If I have one huge struggle, it is the use of QR codes. They age so poorly, leaving the reader with frustration when they no longer work. Please, let’s stop using them in print simply because it is a mess when they fail. My take: Read this book if you’re curious about foresight, or if you’re a business leader starting your journey and interested in working with futures, as it’s a great and inspiring introduction. If you’re already well along in your foresight journey, you might want to look for something else.

Bugge Holm Hansen delte detteSpeculating with Machines: Generative AI in Futures Ethnography by Martin Berg and Sarah Pink is a genuinely thought provoking contribution to futures work. What stands out is not only the use of generative AI, but the experimental setting itself: a week long speculative workshop in which the participants imagined a workplace in 2050. Plus the perspectives and insights that came out of it. I especially love the concept of conversational choreography. It captures something many of us are diving into at the moment, that futures are not simply to be analysed or described, but co shaped through interaction, negotiation, and response, between people, machines, prompts, roles, and the setting itself. It is a strong reminder that futures are not only expressed through grand narratives, but also through local, situated stories and lived experimentation. Kudos to the authors for such a sharp and original piece.

Bugge Holm Hansen delte detteIf there’s one thing I love, it’s meeting fellow futurists and getting inspired. Like recently, when Jess Jorgensen spoke at The Summit about foresight, mushrooms, tech and inner worlds. Yes, we even took a moment to meditate to feel like mushrooms. Nothing short of amazing. I’ve now read her book as well; a quirky little book that feels refreshingly light in a foresight space that can easily become overly academic. My takeaway? We need to talk more about mushrooms. I need to learn much more about the fact that the world’s largest known organism is a “humongous fungus.” And not least, the idea that things need to die for something else to grow. That’s something I still have a lot to learn.

Olivier Desbiey I understand why you’re pointing me toward your Marseille 2 description, given CIFS’ Danish roots, but personally, on my first read, I actually find it to be your weakest territory. On the other hand, I think the Harmony Harbor description is really exciting, and I’m already looking forward to diving deeper into it.
That said, I love that you’ve experimented with the format this time. Really great work.

Dr Mark van Rijmenam I truly think it is a great book that many people would benefit from reading. As I mentioned, it says a lot about where our field is here in 2026, specifically that the futures today is considered more important than ever. However, you should have your publisher double check all your QR codes and ensure they are set up so they do not expire.

This is a field that evolves at such incredible speed it warrants its own dedicated institutional home. That’s why the CFG Board has decided to spin out the current Advanced AI portfolio of work into an independent foundation – Arq – led by Max Reddel. Arq will be independent from CFG, but will continue the work begun here, expanding into new areas where the challenges posed by the most advanced AI systems meet broader questions of institutional readiness and societal resilience. CFG will continue to work across the full range of emerging technologies – AI, neurotech, biotech, and climate interventions. More on that soon. The moment that caught my attention the most is of course related to #ExtendedReality. At some point, Tim was asked whether Apple's next product is going to be #XRGlasses. Obviously, he didn't confirm nor deny it, but my impression was that there is definitely something cooking. There were some reports before that Apple is working on their version of #SmartGlasses. However, given the current trends, I believe this is actually going to be XR glasses of some kind. And knowing Apple, they are going to add their own twist to it, essentially creating a new type of product. Bugge Holm Hansen reagerede på detteBugge Holm Hansen reagerede på detteExcited to share that I'm starting a new role as Advisor on AI for Development at UNDP's Istanbul Regional Hub! 🌍 I'll be working with the Innovation and Digital Team to help shape how AI can be applied meaningfully across the Europe and Central Asia region — from building practical AI service offers for Country Offices, to running a Generative AI Incubator for UNDP colleagues, to exploring how AI can strengthen strategic foresight. Across all of it, I'll keep close watch on the AI frontier — the emergence of agentic systems, trajectories toward AGI, the economic transitions these will drive, and the governance choices that will determine whether any of it actually serves people and what responsible deployment requires. A lot to learn, a lot to build. Looking forward to the journey. Underneath all of it is a question I keep coming back to: AI is moving from experimentation to infrastructure. That's not just a technical shift — it's a societal one. Multi-agent systems, LLM teams doing real creative and analytical work, humans stepping into the roles of judgment, taste, and accountability rather than execution alone. But none of that scales without trust — and trust doesn't come from the models themselves. It comes from what we build around them: the guardrails, the governance, the honest reckoning with what we're actually handing over. That's the work I'm most excited to explore. Bugge Holm Hansen reagerede på detteBugge Holm Hansen reagerede på detteSå er dagen kommet, hvor jeg har trukket i arbejdstøjet som direktør for Museum Sydøstdanmark. Jeg træder ind i en stor og mangfoldig organisation, som har været igennem både turbulente og imponerende produktive år. Med projekter som restaureringen af Holmegaard Glasværk og tilføjelsen af Vikingeborgen Borgring er der skabt et stærkt fundament. Nu begynder det arbejde, jeg virkelig brænder for: at få øje på de potentialer, der gemmer sig i hvert enkelt besøgssted. Vi skal styrke publikumsoplevelsen, udvikle nye samarbejder og bringe museet endnu tættere på lokalsamfundene og de nye generationer. Samtidig er tiden kommet til at stille det helt overordnede spørgsmål: Hvilken rolle skal de lokalhistoriske museer spille i en tid, hvor al verdens viden aldrig er længere væk end et par tryk på den skærm, vi alle har ved hånden? Jeg har selv nogle solide bud, men jeg glæder mig enormt meget til at diskutere spørgsmålet i den kommende tid med ansatte, frivillige og museets mange samarbejdspartnere. Rigtig god påske til alle! Se projektMiljøstyrelsens startede i 2012 arbejdet med at udvikle Danmarks første nationale Friluftspolitik.
For at sætte handling bag friluftspolitikken skabte Naturstyrelsens en række netværk for at udvikle idéer til projekter, der kunne virkeliggøre friluftspolitikkens pejlemærker. Netværkene bestod af interessenter fra friluftslivet i Danmark. Vores arbejde blev skudt i gang i 2013. I alt blev det til 125 idéer, som blev samlet i "Friluftslivets idékatalog"
