Tony Silber shared thisOne of the enduring lessons in specialized media is that growth has to make economic sense. I liked @Andy Clurman’s point in this conversation with @Chris Mohr: your cost structure has to match the scale of the business you actually have, not the business you hope to have. That may sound obvious. In practice, it requires discipline, especially in an industry where the temptation to add complexity can be strong. It’s one of many practical insights Andy shares in this episode of SIIA’s The Business of Information podcast. Well worth a listen for media operators and leaders.Tony Silber shared thisBigger isn't always better in media. While at Time Warner, Andrew Clurman learned that firsthand when he was told a deal under $100 million simply wasn't large enough to justify the corporate machinery behind it. That experience helped shape how he would later approach building and acquiring specialized media businesses. On The Business of Information podcast, Andy joins SIIA President Chris Mohr to discuss why operating at the right scale, staying close to your audience, and investing in complementary businesses can create lasting value. Tony Silber shared thisThis was a terrific, fun, informative session at the recent Revenue + Content Day in New York. Three great panelists whose perspectives perfectly complemented each other. Davide Savenije, Mike Madarasz, Polina Pompliano, Jameson ScarsellaTony Silber shared thisThe creator economy isn’t just disrupting content. It is forcing a fundamental rethink of how media organizations drive revenue. At SIIA’s Revenue + Content Day, leaders from across the industry explored what this shift means for content, marketing, and sales teams. Here is what stood out: • The content creation landscape is evolving as entrepreneurial creators build direct, trusted relationships with their audiences alongside established media brands. • Long-standing silos between editorial, marketing, and sales are breaking down because they have to. Speed, alignment, and shared goals now define competitive advantage. • Independent creators are not just new entrants. They are formidable competitors and powerful potential partners. • Forward-looking organizations are moving beyond competition, exploring how to collaborate with creators or build networks that extend their reach and influence. The takeaway: success in today’s landscape requires rethinking not just content strategy, but the entire operating model behind it. How is your organization evolving in response to the creator economy? This is just one example of the conversations SIIA Media is driving across the industry. Tony Silber shared thisCongrats to the MM+M team for their Neal Awards recognition. Winning a Neal Award is an indicator of an enterprise-wide commitment to great journalism in a served market. That means a lot. B2B media brands are the engines of innovation--sharing knowledge, trends, ideas, and inspiration, and bringing buyers and sellers together. Without this, a market can't grow and thrive. Writ large, it's also true of the whole economy. Neal Awards recognition signals this commitment to the whole community, and it creates an unbeatable esprit de corps on a team and within a company. Well done!Tony Silber shared thisWe’re proud to share that MM+M has been named a 2026 SIIA NEAL Awards Winner — one of the most prestigious honors in business-to-business journalism and editorial excellence. The NEAL Awards recognize outstanding work in specialized and B2B media, and we’re honored to be included among this year’s exceptional finalists. Congratulations to our incredible team! #NEALAwards #B2BMedia #JournalismExcellence

I'm reporting for duty at the Building Decarbonization Coalition after four months holding it down at home with my two assistants (pictured). Tony Silber liked thisSIIA had a big week with our amicus work. We filed in three cases — Supreme, Appellate, and State: 1. Asking the Supreme Court to tell the USPTO to follow the law Congress enacted instead of making up its own new rules. 2. Asking the 9th Circuit to confirm that class actions cannot go forward when they include massive numbers of individuals who have not been harmed. 3. Asking the California courts to let advertisers choose who they advertise too, a long standing practice in the industry. Take a look!Tony Silber liked thisSIIA filed three amicus briefs this week across some of the most consequential tech and innovation cases in the courts right now. The through line: when courts or agencies stretch existing rules beyond their intended limits, the digital economy pays the price — and the rules matter. At the Supreme Court (Intel v. Squires): We joined a coalition urging the Court to enforce Congress's clear one-year deadline for filing Inter Partes Review petitions. The USPTO has been layering on extra conditions — including compressing that window to as few as four months in some jurisdictions — that have effectively dismantled the patent validity review system Congress created. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eGUc7Avj At the California Court of Appeal (Google v. Superior Court): We filed in support of Google's petition for a writ of mandate, arguing that Section 230's protections for neutral advertising tools are well-established. Treating audience-targeting features as co-developed ad content would undermine the framework protecting speech and upend decades of settled internet law, threatening publishers and digital businesses that depend on targeted advertising. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/evduUKai At the Ninth Circuit (Pepper v. Apple): We joined the Computer & Communications Industry Association, NetChoice, Chamber of Progress, and TechNet: The Voice of American Innovation in arguing that certifying a class inflated with millions of uninjured members violates Article III, Rule 23, and the Seventh Amendment — a dynamic that falls especially hard on technology companies whose products touch tens of millions of users. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/erwPdzHc

Tony Silber liked thisTony Silber liked thisWhat does the future of media look like? KC Crain is bullish. On the latest episode of SIIA’s The Business of Information, Crain Communications President and CEO KC Crain joins host Chris Mohr to discuss why the next chapter of media won’t be about chasing scale. It will be about delivering information professionals genuinely value. From podcasts and video to new data and AI-powered products, KC sees more ways than ever for media companies to serve their audiences and build sustainable businesses. “We’ve never been a volume play. We’re definitely a premium play.” Listen to the full conversation to hear why KC believes premium journalism, niche communities, and more than a century of trusted information give Crain plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what comes next. 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/er3Z-s6C #B2BMedia #MediaIndustry #MediaInnovation #AIinMedia #BusinessOfInformation

Tony Silber liked thisTony Silber liked this"It's easy to see the doom — especially if you get overwhelmed with how quickly everything's going." KC Crain, President & CEO of Crain Communications, isn't ignoring the anxiety around AI. But he's also not letting it win. With 100 years of proprietary data, Crain is already building new products and developing their own AI technologies — and KC sees it as a massive advantage, not a threat. His take: we're not even at the halfway point of the first inning yet.
