Greg Johns reposted thisGreg Johns reposted thisBig news: Microsoft Edge is launching its own privacy-preserving ads API that is modeled on Google Chrome's PA API, but has some key differences that improve upon PA. https://lnkd.in/e6EtEyjY A main difference is Edge's Ad Selection API (ASAPI) only runs in Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) and has no on-device component (to start). PA API can work in either, but most of the current development is on-device which presents a number of concerns, including latency. ASAPI also supports multi-size and multi-slot auctions, which is a big weakness of PA API that needs to be addressed. A huge benefit is ASAPI allows for ad creatives to be dynamically updated, unlike PA, which requires them to be loaded when the interest group is set. Another nice feature of the TEE setup in ASAPI is they are open to running TEEs on platforms beyond Google and Amazon, which has been a sticking point for a lot of adtech firms supporting PA API. But perhaps the best feature of ASAPI (from what I've read so far) is that it is largely feature- and syntax-compatible with PA so it will be easy for adtech, publishers, and advertisers to support if they have already built to PA. So enjoy my diary entry. I stepped away from Chalice AI for one of the best reasons imaginable and, as advertised—and impossible to understand until it happens to you—being a Dad is pretty rad. I take back all my comments about being annoyed by people posting about family here. BACK TO BUSINESS! A few things that happened: We entered the back half partnering with 2.2x the number of brands we started the year with. Bayer’s work with Chalice was featured in Forbes (not a big deal), highlighting how they’re using AI to drive actual business results—not another media metric. Maria Givens also remains one of the most impressive people I have met and have the honor to work with. Hyundai and Canvas Worldwide shared how they’re using Chalice to put their own intelligence behind every open-web media decision, with Sean Gilpin calling it a competitive advantage. Canvas Worldwide has been with us from the jump, and we continue to innovate together due to the leadership in the space. Our dentsu partnership continues to evolve, bringing more intelligence into the first milliseconds of programmatic decisioning—before signals get filtered or flattened. This all points to a piece Ali Manning published in The Current, questioning whether our industry has ruined the word “outcomes.” Maybe we have, but I’m optimistic about the changes I’ve seen this year. More collaboration, deeper understanding and demands for transparency. I think that plays well for the good guys, no matter the nomenclature. “Solve big business problems = grow real fast.” — Sales Guy But one of the things I’m most excited about hasn’t happened externally. We officially evolved Customer Success into Customer Strategy and Solutions Architecture, led by Joseph Jung. This isn't a name change for the sake of a name change. It is recognition of what this team has become. Together, we have what I genuinely believe is one of the deepest collections of programmatic knowledge in the industry. People who understand the technology, media and our clients' businesses—and are curious enough to keep asking how we can do it better, while also consulting on the underlying tech for our partners. JJ is the perfect person for this, and it's been a highlight coming back to work with him. Plus we are hiring for this incredible team + analytics! https://lnkd.in/g_DZc9XK The goal isn't simply to make our technology successful. It's to help clients figure out what else is possible with it. That's what human in the loop AI is. There is a lot happening at Chalice. New brands. New use cases. New products. More proof that giving marketers control over the intelligence making their media decisions can create real business value. Every detail supported the experience: ocean views, build-your-own bouquets, lemon-scented candles that matched the signage, and custom leather embossing. The theme wasn’t just decoration. It created a shared atmosphere for meeting new people, connecting with my team from Canvas Worldwide, and celebrating that advertising is built on human connection. One perspective I shared: the Outcome Accountability Hierarchy. Advertisers own the business outcome. Agencies translate that into marketing and media outcomes they can influence. Publishers, platforms, and measurement partners each contribute evidence of their impact, but no single platform, publisher, or methodology should claim sole credit for business results. That’s why the business question has to come first. Different methodologies answer different questions, and the clearer we are on the question, the easier it is to assign accountability and choose the right approach. Thanks to IAB and Fred Seddon for moderating a thoughtful discussion. Proud to represent Canvas Worldwide at the summit.
