Daniel Hest shared thisI'm proud to share that Strongpoint Partners has landed on the Inc. 5000 for the third consecutive year, this time at #530, and #10 in Chicago. This recognition belongs to our administrators, consultants, actuaries, onboarding and L&D specialists, salespeople, and payroll professionals who manage thousands of plans and the countless details behind each one. It belongs to our platform team too, for the support they give every one of our partner firms. Thank you to our clients, and to our advisor, CPA, and recordkeeping partners, for the trust you place in us. And thank you to every person at our firms for earning it again this year. The ranking isn't the part I'm most excited about. Small and mid-sized businesses have been underserved in the retirement space for a long time. We're still in the early innings of building our national network that pairs deep local expertise with the technology and infrastructure to change that, and I believe our best days are ahead of us. #StrongerTogetherDaniel Hest shared thisWe're proud to share that Strongpoint has been named one of America's fastest-growing private companies on the Inc. 5000, coming in at #530, placing us in the top 11% of the list. It's a milestone that means the world to us, and one we owe entirely to the people behind it. As a national network of retirement plan administration and consulting firms, our growth is really a reflection of something simpler: the trust our clients place in us, and the heart the partner firms pour into their work every single day. We are truly #StrongerTogether. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gQEb3c_b

Daniel Hest shared thisI’m proud to share that Strongpoint Partners has earned Great Place To Work® Certification for the second consecutive year, and has also been recognized as #10 on the Fortune Best Workplaces in Chicago™ 2026. This year, 93% of our employees said that Strongpoint is a great place to work (an increase from 92% in 2025). While we’ve grown significantly over the past few years, I’m most proud of how we’ve done it. We’ve added new partners, built new capabilities, and entered new markets, but the most difficult thing to scale in any organization is culture. Our values, Stronger Together, Obsess Over the Customer, Strive to Be Better Every Day, Do Right Things Do Things Right, Seek to Understand Why, and Own the Outcome, align us and guide how we recognize, reward, make people decisions, and choose which partners we work with. Great Place to Work is simply a reflection of our amazing team who lives these values every day. To each and every member of the Strongpoint team: thank you for making this a special place! I’m excited to be on this journey with you! https://lnkd.in/gJTBgphp #strongertogether

Daniel Hest liked thisDaniel Hest liked thisKen Griffin keeps a $10 plaque behind his desk: “If we’re all going to eat, someone has to sell.” That might be the most honest business lesson there is. Griffin says you’re always selling: to employees, customers, investors, vendors, and partners. And selling means hearing “no.” Early in Citadel’s history, Griffin once flew to Switzerland for a meeting, only for the person to realize he had mistaken him for someone else and walk out. Later that day, another banker told him he was a bright young man who had simply chosen the wrong career. Two brutal rejections in one day. His response? Get used to hearing no. Whether you’re raising money, hiring people, or building a company, rejection isn’t the exception. It’s part of the job. 💵 Get your brand in front of my audience 🌍 CheaperTeam | In-Office Overseas Employees From $9/Hr 📈 Tuli Talks Markets Newsletter

Daniel Hest liked thisDaniel Hest liked thisSomething big has changed in the candidates I'm getting for Product Manager roles. 6 months ago, nearly every candidate who got to the take-home challenge stage of the process would send back some form of AI slop. Sometimes it was really horrible, but usually it was at least meandering and unfocused, with way too much reliance on AI to structure and frame the solution. I almost canceled that part of the process, thinking it was useless, but I knew that if someone didn't have the taste to make sure the output was solid, then they wouldn't be successful in our roles. So the exercise stayed. I'm recruiting again, and this time, this problem barely exists. I can tell that folks use AI to help in the task, but what I'm getting back now consistently is framed by the candidate's brain and presents a much more coherent story and thought process. I don't think it's that the AI outputs have gotten better, because I use Claude, Gemini, etc every day myself. I think we turned a huge bend where candidates realized that human judgement was still a necessary filter on our work... and I believe this is a microcosm of a greater shift. Thank goodness. I was so sick of reading slop.

Daniel Hest liked thisDaniel Hest liked thisNew Episode of Bigger. Stronger. Faster.! What does it look like to drive real change in a fast-growing business when no one reports to you and the playbook does not exist? In this episode, Anderson Williams sits down with Nick Sherrard, Chief of Staff at Thermal Shipping Solutions and a member of Shore Capital Partners' CXO Fellows Program, to discuss what it means to step into a family-founded, fast-scaling microcap company as one of the youngest executives in the room. They discuss: • Why the speed and attribution of impact in a microcap business convinced Nick this was the right path, starting with an internship at a Shore portfolio company • How an engineering mindset of inputs, outputs, and bottlenecks turns recurring fire drills into root causes you can actually fix • Why driving change without authority comes down to making every solution a win-win-win, and what it means when you can't make that case • How the CXO cohort serves as part joint therapy and part best practice sharing, because nobody else in your company is living the same highs and lows Nick also shares the best advice he's ever gotten, which he's never lived more fully than this past year: don't confuse urgency with importance. This job is a marathon, not a sprint. Drift is what happens when assets aren’t actively reviewed, only assumed. Strategic asset management means stepping back, analyzing performance, and making informed decisions based on real data, not guesswork. Tools like the Wealth Optimizer exist to bring clarity to investment properties, cash flow, long-term value, and overall performance, so owners can make decisions with confidence. Strategy doesn’t eliminate risk. It eliminates blind spots. Protect your asset. Build your legacy. Two weeks ago on Swimming with Allocators, we sat down with David Clark, CIO at VenCap, to talk about what decades of venture data can teach allocators. One takeaway that stood out: discounts don’t matter as much as people think in venture secondaries. Because venture is such a power-law asset class, outcomes are driven by exposure to a few massive winners. Whether a stake is bought at a small discount, or even a premium, often matters far less than the quality of the underlying company and its upside. Great conversation on venture returns, manager selection, and the nuances of how allocators should think about secondary investments. 👇 Link in the comments.

What’s old is new. Funny to watch VCs flood back to out-of-favor business models—hardware-enabled software, marketplaces, consumer tech—which are now viewed as more defensible because AI can't easily replicate physical infrastructure, network effects, or brand.

I had a great conversation recently with Peter Lehrman on the Axial Masters in Small Business M&A podcast discussing how the lower middle market has evolved over the past couple of decades. Over the last 25 years, the ecosystem has changed dramatically. Many funds outgrew the lower middle market, while additional equity sources like independent sponsors, family offices, new LMM funds, and large funds moving ‘downstream’ have expanded the participant pool. Purchase multiples and equity contribution percentages have increased, adding pressure to returns, and the credit markets have evolved as well, impacting leverage rates and deal activity. We talked about what this shift means for private equity value creation today. At Broadwing Capital, implementing platform growth tools in alignment with founders and management teams are more important drivers of return than financial engineering. I also shared the investment thesis behind our recent acquisition of CloudScale365, Inc. and how we think about growth, culture, and stakeholder impact post-transaction. Thanks to Peter for the thoughtful discussion. If you are interested in where the lower middle market is heading, it's worth a listen. https://lnkd.in/gTaMcGAc
