Swept the Academy Awards for a reason. It's the perfect thriller. There's massive suspense, especially that ending. The acting is outstanding with Anthony Hopkins giving life to one of the most iconic movie villains ever. Jodie Foster is great as FBI agent in training Clarice and Scott Glenn is perfect as seasoned agent Jack Crawford.
First of all I'm not a horror and thriller fan. But this film proves that horrors don't need CGI to successfully send shivers down the spine. Just the presence or either Hannibal or Buffalo Bill was enough to do so in my case. Also Jodi Foster is the only Clarice Starling - she was superb. Seeing one the greatest and most successful films at Academy Awards was a great experience.
Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay, sent the first draft to Jonathan Demme to review it and expected him to send it back so he could develop it further. But to his surprise the director thought it was good enough.
After reading the book I’ve realised how flawed the movie is.
