Synopsis

Batman, directed by Tim Burton, introduces Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, who combats Gotham City's crime under the persona of Batman. The film unfolds with Batman facing his arch-nemesis, The Joker, portrayed by Jack Nicholson, who threatens Gotham's safety and tests Batman's resolve while safeguarding his identity and love interest, Vicki Vale.

Doesn't get more iconic than Keaton as Batman. Love that Tim Burton restrained himself a bit more here compared to Returns. This movie is just classic and showed Batman like he had never been seen before in live action. Aged pretty well in my opinion. Think Joker is great.

My first superhero film I've seen. It was still an exciting experience despite the fact that I knew the identity of Caped Crusader and how Batman was born. Another element that made me love the film was the fact that the film marked a collaboration between Danny Elfman and Tim Burton (who also worked together on my other favourites Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland and Edward Scissorhands). I absolutely loved Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Batwing in front of the moon foreshadowing Bat-Signal most definitely has become ICONIC. Never expected to quote "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?". Memorable film which began my Journey with Batman films.

Tim Burton understood perfectly that Batman can more or less be whatever you make of it. His Gotham City is absolutely iconic - a candy confection riddled with serial killers.

The superhero movie that proved the genre can thrive, Burton's Batman is a classic. Alongside Donner's Superman, it introduced the darker Batman to a world too used to his camper 60's incarnation, oozing with style, charm, and tension, yet a morbid humor. From the slow introduction through the eyes of Bassinger's Vicki Vale to Gotham, to the charm of Keaton's Bruce and his cool, measured Batman, to Nicholson's lively Joker, Batman holds up even amongst the best blockbusters of today.
