How to Unlock The Shrine of the Crusader Quest in Oblivion Remastered
The quest The Shrine of the Crusader will be started immediately after you have finished the prerequisite quest, Pilgrimage, and have the Knights of the Nine downloaded for Oblivion Remastered.
The Shrine of the Crusader Quest Notes & Tips
- The type of armor (light or heavy) you receive for all relics is determined at this point. If your Light Armor skill is higher than Heavy Armor when the vision begins, you’ll receive light versions of all armor pieces, and vice versa.
- Sir Amiel's Ring remains flagged as a quest item even after this quest ends, making it impossible to remove from your inventory. This bug is resolved in the Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patches.
The Shrine of the Crusader Quest Rewards
- Knight Errant rank
- Helm of the Crusader

Complete the Pilgrimage Quest to Receive a Divine Vision
Upon completing your Pilgrimage to the Wayshrines, you will be granted a mystical vision. You'll find yourself standing amidst the stars above the Imperial City, face to face with the spirit of Pelinal Whitestrake, the Divine Crusader. He warns of Umaril the Unfeathered's return and explains how his alliance with Meridia allows his spirit to regenerate in Oblivion each time he is slain. The only way to truly vanquish Umaril is to reclaim all of the Crusader's relics and call upon the divine aid of the Nine.
Pelinal mentions that one such relic, the Helm of the Crusader, may still rest in his old shrine, the Ayleid ruin Vanua. Though he cannot confirm its presence, he believes it has remained untouched due to the ruin's remote location and dangerous wildlife.
Sir Amiel's Legacy
After the vision, your journal updates, and you're marked as a Knight Errant in the newly joined Knights of the Nine faction. A quest marker is set to Vanua, found underwater where Lake Rumare meets the Upper Niben River.
Dive into the depths to locate the entrance to Vanua. Once inside, make your way through typical Ayleid ruins and rocky detours created by cave-ins. Eventually, in the Shrine of the Crusader zone, you will come across the long-deceased knight Sir Amiel.
Searching his body reveals:
- His journal, which describes the fall of the original Knights of the Nine and hints at where the Cuirass of the Crusader lies.
- His ring, which you will need to access hidden chambers later at the Priory of the Nine.
Sir Amiel had once led the original order of knights who sought to protect the relics. His account details their downfall due to internal greed and ambition, setting the stage for your journey to rebuild the order.
The Helm of the Crusader
To retrieve the Helm, continue through the final section called The Lost Catacombs. You'll eventually loop around and emerge above the altar where Sir Amiel's body rests. There, the Helm of the Crusader sits on a sacred altar.
If you wish to bypass The Lost Catacombs:
- Use high Acrobatics or the Boots of Springheel Jak to leap over the railing.
- Jump onto a broken pillar and carefully scale the wall.
- Use a thin ledge to sprint and jump across the fence.
- Or employ the paint brush glitch to create floating platforms.
Important: Make sure to collect Sir Amiel's ring before leaving; it’s essential for opening the relic vault at the Priory of the Nine.
Once the Helm is secured, the quest concludes. Your next stop will be the Priory of the Nine to begin the search for the next relic.
