Pilgrimage is a Knights of the Nine Quest in Oblivion Remastered. Set against the desecration of the Chapel of Dibella in Anvil, this quest introduces players to the divine journey of redemption and virtue. Guided by a cryptic Prophet, you will travel across Cyrodiil to prove your worth to the Nine Divines, cleansing your past sins and unlocking the path to becoming the Divine Crusader.
The Prophet speaks true. This is the start of something terrible, I can feel it in my bones.
How to Unlock Pilgrimage Quest in Oblivion Remastered
The quest Pilgrimage will be started immediately after you have finished the tutorial and have the Knights of the Nine downloaded for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
Pilgrimage Quest Notes & Tips
- The pilgrimage removes Infamy but not the repercussions of your crimes. Guards may still recognize you as a criminal.
- If Infamy > 0, each shrine says, "Continue your penance..." until all nine are visited.
- Clearing Infamy disables altar blessings in chapels. Revisit all shrines to reactivate them.
- You cannot complete the pilgrimage while wearing the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal.
- Blood runes in the Anvil chapel read, "By the eternal power of Umaril, the mortal gods shall be cast down."
- Completing the pilgrimage before talking to the Prophet requires a repeat visit to all nine shrines.
Pilgrimage Quest Rewards
- Pilgrim rank in Nine Divines faction
- Access to all chapels across Cyrodiil

Speak to any NPC to learn of a Prophet in Anvil
Once the Knights of the Nine content is active, you’ll soon hear rumors of an unsettling attack on the Chapel of Dibella in Anvil. Follow these leads and make your way to Anvil. There, you'll find the Prophet near Benirus Manor, ranting about the divine catastrophe and a being called Umaril the Unfeathered.
Engaging with the Prophet initiates a test of humility. Choose a humble response when he questions your worth, then inquire about the Relics. He instructs you to complete a sacred pilgrimage to prove your devotion, providing a map to the Nine Divines' wayshrines and granting you the rank of Pilgrim in the Nine Divines faction.
Before leaving Anvil, it’s worth exploring the desecrated chapel. Inside, you’ll find the dead clergy, blood-streaked Ayleid symbols, and tomes such as The Song of Pelinal, The Adabal-a, and Shezarr and the Divines that deepen the lore surrounding Umaril and Pelinal Whitestrake.
Travel to Anvil and speak with the Prophet outside the Chapel
The goal is to visit and activate one shrine for each of the Nine Divines:
- Akatosh
- Arkay
- Dibella
- Julianos
- Kynareth
- Mara
- Stendarr
- Talos
- Zenithar
Use the Prophet's map to locate at least one shrine per deity. You may visit any known shrine for each Divine. Completion reduces your Infamy to zero and prepares you for the vision that launches the next quest.
Optional companions Sir Roderic and Lathon may appear during your journey, also undertaking the pilgrimage. Their company is not essential but adds immersion.
You can also check your progress by entering any chapel (except Anvil’s) and activating the interior altars. If a blessing is received, you've visited that deity's shrine; if not, you still need to.
