Getting around the vast open world of Subnautica 2 isn’t easy. You start with nothing, but as you progress through the story, you’ll unlock various means of travel. Getting an oxygen tank will no doubt be the first thing you get, and then something to breathe further underwater, but diving fins are also something very important.
These will help you get around fast, and while the basic ones do the job, you may want something more advanced. Thankfully, Unknown Worlds knows this and has added an upgraded version down the line, but it does require a bit of work to get it. Thankfully, we know where to find the recipe and what materials are needed.
How to Improve Oxygen Efficiency in Subnautica 2
Breathe in. Breathe out. Now hold your breath as long as you can in this underwater survival game.
How to Unlock Improved Fins
In order to unlock Improved Fins, you will need to collect three blueprints out in the world. These are scattered primarily in the second portion of the story, past the Graveyard and into the Observatory and Power Plant areas.
You also can’t just pick some up and put them on. They are permanent upgrades to your existing Basic Fins, so you will need to scan three of the Improved Fins around the various areas to earn them.
Once this is done, you will then need a handful of materials:
- Basic Fins x1
- Fiber Mesh x1
- Conduit Crystal x1
The only real meaningful material is the Conduit Crystal, which can be found near the Angel Comb in the Power Plant area. The rest are things you should have or should be able to make relatively easily.
Where to Find Improved Fins Blueprint
Improved Fins are useful in the early stages of the game, but slightly less so the further you get into the game. While they still contribute to your overall exploration, investing more in the Tadpole is a far greater investment than anything else, as it can go further and much quicker than any of your standard adventuring.
With that said, you will need to get out of your Tadpole a fair amount given that you can’t mine or collect items while inside, so having a little bit of extra speed and mobility is still handy.
Near the Rosetta Stone #1
The first one can be found shortly after the Observation section of the map (where the Alien Ruins are found). If you go to the giant alien Rosetta Stone pilar behind the Alien Ruins, look down to the northeast and you will see a small platform.
Swim down there and behind the bench with a light turned on, you will find the first set of Improved Fins on the floor. For a more precise location, it’s directly 1,360 meters east southeast of your Lifepod and 210 meters underwater.
Near the Rosetta Stone #2
The next one can be found directly southeast of where you got the last Improved Fins, and directly east of the Rosetta Stone monument. There is a small cave system, but instead of going in, you’ll only want to land on the surface.
At around 266 meters down, you’ll find the Improved Fins in a tipped-over box full of Sulfur. This is roughly 1,380 meters from your Lifepod east southeast and next to the entrance of the cave system (both the hole in the ground and a rather large opening).
East of the Habitat
Last, but not least, can be found very close to the large Power Plant structure that towers over everything in the area. From the small, abandoned habitat with a single room with breathable oxygen, head directly east and 300 meters down.
You will come across some alien structures, and in some boxes next to them will be the Improved Fins sticking out. This is around 1,550 meters east of the Lifepod if you need a good indicator.
