Whether it’s farming large scale minerals or hacking away at plant life for food, there seems like an endless number of things to do in Subnautica 2. Starting right from the beginning, your goal is to survive, but to do so, you will need some of the best and most suitable materials possible.

Cue Creature Enamel, a mid-to-late game material that can only be collected in one specific area and is surprisingly well hidden from view. This is because this mineral doesn’t look like your traditional element. Thankfully, we know exactly where it’s located and how to spot it.

Where to Find Creature Enamel

At the beginning of Subnautica 2, you will be collecting Titanium, Copper and Silver among everything else. These are some of the most important building blocks of the survival game, as most items, especially in base building, require these three minerals in some form or fashion.

In the late portions of the story, you will need to look for more advanced minerals, such as Troilite, Celestine and Creature Enamel. This is one of the harder materials to identify, only because it doesn’t look like anything you can collect, and instead, something that’s simply part of the environment.

While the other minerals are more recognizable as something you can break apart and collect, this is hidden in the environment. This is because Enamel has what looks like plant life growing out of the side of it.

Once you identify this, you’ll be able to see it fairly often, but it’s mostly found in one specific location. This is generally found between the Observatory and Power Plant sections of the map, far to the east, past the Collector Leviathan and the Ancient Ruins.

This is roughly 1,350 meters away from the Lifepod directly to the east (100–250 meters down), or 330 meters southeast of the Ancient Ruins. It is taking refuge on one specific large rock formation, although you will be able to find it in other parts of the area.

What Creature Enamel is Used For

Surprisingly, Enamel isn’t used for too much in Subnautica 2, but the one thing it does produce is incredibly handy. Creature Enamel is used in conjunction with Glass to create Enameled Glass.

Enameled Glass is one of the most important materials in the end game, as it’s used in a Bioscanner, Feedback Resonator, Tadpole Haul Chassis and two Tadpole upgrades: Strike Armor and Depth Module Mk. 1.

While the Feedback Resonator is mandatory to get to progress the story, the Depth Module is one of the best quality of life improvements you could ask for in regard to the Tadpole. This allows your little device to go past the 250-meter limit and all the way down to 450 meters.

Being able to go down this deep without having to worry about it crumpling up into nothing is what you need to get as soon as possible, making Creature Enamel one of the most important minerals in the game.
