The Korean Mob are a collection of Korean criminal gangs and syndicates that operate out of Alderney City, Alderney and are featured in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City.

Description

Members of the Korean Mob can be seen around in Alderney City, driving modified Sultans and Presidentes. They speak English surprisingly well, rarely speaking their native tongue, and some members even speak with a passable American accent. Some members will wear their hair short, wearing black suits or dark-colored peacoats. Others wear curtained hair, with track jackets, gilets over hoodies, jeans, wallet chains, and sneakers. Some members have notable violent tendencies, openly discussing their love for murder and threatening graphic acts of violence. The Koreans share their Alderney City turf with the Spanish Lords, but gang wars between the two are an occasional occurrence. After the mission Dining Out, the Koreans become hostile towards Niko and will respond more aggressively if Niko starts a gunfight with them.

In a Weazel News report, the Korean Mob are mentioned as being one of the many gangs moving into Liberty City, which eventually happens in 2009 due to the Midtown Gangsters' presence in Bohan. The LCPD database suggests a business relationship between them and the Triads. Due to their association with North Korean national Kim Young-Guk, one of their primary operations appears to be counterfeiting. They're also involved in drug dealing, as seen in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Their favorite radio station is Electro-Choc.

In 2008, Niko Bellic and Derrick McReary assisted one of their associates, Kim Young-Guk, in a counterfeiting operation. However, Niko later killed Kim on the orders of Jon Gravelli. The Korean Mob are one of the gangs Henrique Bardas and Armando Torres target in order to steal their drugs.

Events of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

In 2009, a Korean crime syndicate known as the Midtown Gangsters have established a presence in Bohan. It's unclear if they have any ties with the Koreans in Alderney City but because they are shown to operate in the Industrial section of Bohan and have some of the same voice lines as them, they may have been the associates of Kim Young-Guk mentioned in Babysitting.

The Korean Mob are based on jopok (Korean:조폭, short for "jojikpokryeokbae, Korean:조직폭력배"), meaning "organized crime" in English) Kkangpae (Korean:깡패), Korean mobsters or street thugs. They could also be loosely based on Room 39, a North Korean governmental organization, due to their association with North Korean national Kim Young-Guk.
