Dark Souls Matchmaking Notes

  • There is no cross-platform play. You cannot play with someone on PS4 if you are on PC, etc.
  • Owners of the original game do not share online sessions with the Remastered version, on any platform.
  • Armor upgrades have no effect on matchmaking.
  • Dark Souls Remastered implemented passwords. Using a password bypasses any level or weapon limitations. The Fextralife community uses the password "fextra".
  • Dark Souls Remastered: the Blue Eye Orb has the same summon range as the Red Eye Orb. The Dragon Eye and White Sign Soapstone use the level of the summoner, not the summonee.
  • There are many nuances to the game's multiplayer — refer to Covenants for the specific mechanics of each faction.
  • Rounding: the percentage part of each formula is truncated, not rounded. A level 59 player calculates 10 + 5, not 10 + 5.9.

Dark Souls Remastered Weapon Matchmaking

Simply progressing your game and picking up certain weapons will — without your knowledge — inflate your "summoning tier". Some examples are Black Knight weapons, unique shields upgraded with twinkling, and unique weapons from tail cuts such as the Moonlight Greatsword. Since Dark Souls Remastered follows the Dark Souls 3 rules, once these items are in your inventory, dropping, depositing or giving them away still leaves a memory on that character. You can consider Unique Weapons by their upgrades.
