Boruto: Two Blue Vortex follows the story of Naruto Uzumaki's son, Boruto Uzumaki, and gives us a modern take on the ninja world, which was established by Masashi Kishimoto long ago in 1999. With the new age comes a new generation of powerful ninjas and, at the same time, stronger villains.
However, the most surprising thing that the Boruto series is bringing to the table is the end of Ninjas forever. The entirety of the Naruto franchise, including Boruto itself, is built on the concept of Ninjas, but it seems that the sequel series is finally bidding farewell to the Shinobi kind. This was officially confirmed by both Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto on 9 May 2016 with the prologue of the Boruto series, and the new Two Blue Vortex arc is going to continue to build towards it on September 17, 2026.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Is Ending The Era Of Ninjas Forever
In the world of Naruto and Boruto, the age of ninjas began with Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths. He was the one who started spreading chakra around as he traveled and taught people the art of ninshu to connect with them. Over the years, ninshu was corrupted and used to create ninjutsu, which ended up becoming a weapon to wield in combat. Thus, the shinobi were born for the very first time. Since then, shinobi culture has developed so much that each country has its own shinobi village, which serves as its primary military unit. In the age of Boruto, there was peace in the ninja world as long as Naruto Uzumaki reigned. Naruto saw to it that shinobi from all over the world understood each other and put their differences aside to fight greater threats, such as the Otsutsuki. However, the very existence of the ninja world is now threatened due to Kawaki.
Boruto: I can't believe you went this far, Kawaki!
Kawaki: I'll send you where I sent the Seventh shortly, Boruto.

In Boruto chapter 1, which was officially released on 9 May 2016, Kawaki and Boruto Uzumaki both state that the age of shinobi is officially over. This means that their ninja village does not exist any longer, and this is further proven by the fact that Konoha is completely destroyed at this point in time. The Hokage Mountain is destroyed, and Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage of Konoha, is still sealed away in the dimension of Daikokuten at this point. It appears that the Otsutsuki have also laid ruin on the world.
Given that the age of the entire shinobi kind is over by this point, it can be stated that all the ninja villages faced destruction similar to Konoha. As to how and why that happened, we do not know, but the prologue of the series has already confirmed to us that the age of ninjas is ending. Boruto Uzumaki is also said to be the last standing ninja, meaning the vast majority of the others are either incapacitated or, in the worst case, dead.
Boruto: I guess this was the only possible outcome.
Kawaki: That's right! The age of Shinobi is over!

Konoha And The Ninja World's Fate Will Be Decided By Kawaki Vs Boruto
The fate of the ninja world in the Boruto series will be decided by its last surviving ninja, and that is Boruto Uzumaki. In the prologue, we see Boruto Uzumaki take up arms against Kawaki and activate his Karma to face him. This battle will decide whether the shinobi will survive or not. With Boruto as the last surviving ninja, he has to fight Kawaki head-on and defeat him, but this task is certainly not going to be easy. As already established by both Kishimoto and Ikemoto, Kawaki has access to the Karma of Isshiki Otsutsuki, meaning he has all of his powers at his disposal. Furthermore, with Amado's modification that came in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #35 on June 18, 2026, Kawaki is sure to grow even stronger.

Meanwhile, Boruto Uzumaki was trained by Sasuke Uchiha, which was confirmed to us in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5, and, at his disposal, he has the Karma of Momoshiki Otsutsuki, which he clearly has full control over by this point. In essence, the Boruto series is going to decide the fate of the shinobi kind with the clash of Boruto and Kawaki, and the winner of this battle will finally change the world for good. If Kawaki wins, the shinobi kind will end forever, and it is likely that he will regain sole power in the new world. Meanwhile, if Boruto wins, it is highly likely that the ninja kind will be restored forever, and that is something that we would certainly hope is the case, especially after spending years in this phenomenal world with brilliant characters all around us.

Why Boruto Uzumaki Must Revive The Age Of Ninjas
It goes without saying that the Boruto series has certainly done a good job when it comes to raising curiosity among the fans pertaining to the end of the Shinobi world. At the same time, it also makes it clear that Boruto Uzumaki still holds the same belief as Shinobi and is fighting on their behalf. If Boruto goes on to win the last battle, then the Shinobi world can perhaps be revived once again. It must also be remembered that there exists a Jutsu such as Omnipotence, which can grant the deepest desires of the users and turn them into reality. As such, the Boruto series can essentially revive the ninja world at any given moment due to the incredibly overpowered nature of this Shinjutsu that was introduced in Boruto Chapter 58.
It will be interesting to see what direction Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto take with this concept in the future. We are certainly eager to see how the Shinobi world comes to face extinction, how the ninjas end, and why Kawaki is against the Shinobi world, to begin with. For now, the story is nowhere close to reaching a point where the shinobi world faces its extinction. We are still months away from this event, and right now all the focus is on the Shinju. Currently, Shinju Hidari is the next in line to be defeated, which will facilitate the return of Sasuke Uchiha in the story. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 37, which is set for release on September 17, 2026, in V-Jump Issue #11, is set to continue the events of the post-Mamushi arc that will lead the world one step closer to its end.
