The concept of Hokage was officially introduced to us in the very first chapter of the Naruto series. Ever since then, this exalted position has been expanded upon significantly with each passing chapter. At the end of the Naruto series, on November 10, 2014, Naruto Uzumaki officially rose to the position of Seventh Hokage. Later in the Boruto era, Naruto continued to reign as the Hokage of the village until he was eventually sealed away by Kawaki inside the dimension of Daikokuten.
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Specifically, in its new arc, which officially began on June 18, 2026, 2 new legendary Hokage are now officially lined up for Konoha, and we absolutely cannot wait to see the village welcome a completely new era led by Konohamaru, who is likely to be the 8th Hokage, and then Sarada Uchiha as the 9th Hokage immediately after him.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Is Officially Ending Naruto's Reign As Seventh Hokage
Naruto Uzumaki ended up becoming the 7th Hokage of Konoha after enduring an arduous journey right from the beginning to the end of his original story. On November 10, 2014, Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the original series, finally showed Naruto Uzumaki rising to the position of 7th Hokage and ruling as he always intended. At this point, Naruto had already become the strongest ninja in the whole world and, at the same time, gained enough wisdom and intelligence to lead properly and carry the will of fire.
Naruto's reign as the Hokage was also the longest period that Konoha and the Ninja World enjoyed peace. However, in the Boruto series, trouble stirred once again with the rise of the organization known as Kara. At its helm was Jigen, who was the vessel of Isshiki Otsutsuki, and with time, new powerful individuals kept appearing one after another. Eventually, Naruto Uzumaki was simply outclassed when he fought against Isshiki, and in this battle, he also lost the power of Kurama, which was officially showcased to us in Boruto chapter 55 on February 19 2021. With the loss of Kurama came Naruto's downfall, and as he was no longer a superhuman and was weak, Kawaki decided to seal him away in Boruto chapter 77 on January 19, 2023.
Since then, the 7th Hokage has been locked away in the dimension of Dailokuten and has not yet returned. Three years have passed since then, and Konoha needs a new Hokage. While Shikamaru was dallying on this decision for long, the village has decided to elect a completely new Hokage. This individual is none other than Konohamaru Sarutobi.

New Boruto Arc Sets Up Konohamaru's Ascension To Hokage
Konohamaru's rise to the position of Hokage was officially set up in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 36 on July 18, 2026. In this chapter, Kashin Koji got a new Prescience vision, and in this vision, he saw Shikamaru being removed from the position of Hokage. Shikamaru was seen cooking together with Jura in some far-off house, suggesting that he was not leading Konoha from the office any longer. Instead, Konohamaru was seen next to the Hokage cape, suggesting that it is he who ends up becoming the official 8th Hokage of Konoha. Given that it was always his dream to become the Hokage and follow in the footsteps of Naruto Uzumaki, this makes perfect sense. In the new arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which is set to continue its run on September 17, 2026, with the release of Chapter 37, we will most certainly see Konohamaru become the official 8th Hokage of the village and get his face inscribed on the Hokage Mountain. With that, Konohamaru will also get a significant power-up because Konoha has yet to see a weak Hokage, and that is something we are eagerly waiting for.

Konohamaru Sarutobi is not the only Hokage that Konoha is going to get. It has already been established in the series that Sarada Uchiha will also become the Hokage of Konoha at some point. While Konohamaru fills in this position right now, he won't hold on to it for long. Come the end of the series, Sarada Uchiha will have gained enough strength, wisdom, and intelligence to rule as the Hokage of the village. At this point, Sarada will become the 9th Hokage, and we are eagerly waiting to see what her character will deliver to us in the future.

Sarada Uchiha Will Become The Hokage At The End Of The Story
Many fans might argue that Sarada is already strong enough to become the Hokage of the village. After all, she has enough strength in her to defeat Konohamaru and possibly every other Jonin that exists in Konoha at the moment. However, there is more to becoming the Hokage than just being strong. A Hokage must, first and foremost, understand the will of fire. At the same time, they must be smart enough to carry out the day-to-day tasks of the Hokage and have enough compassion to tend to the needs of all those around them. Having strength is an important part of becoming the Hokage, but we know for a fact that strong individuals have previously been denied this position, such as Orochimaru, due to having the wrong temperament.

Sarada Uchiha needs to grow more than just strong if she truly intends to become the Hokage. Thankfully, there is still a lot of time for her to develop fully as a character. Come the end of the Boruto series, Sarada will have developed tremendously and fully earned this position for herself. Interestingly enough, the ongoing arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which is called the post-Mamushi arc, is expanding upon her character and further developing it. Given that she is at the center of this arc, we are eagerly waiting to see her grow both in terms of power and characterization and fully earn the position of Hokage for herself as the story continues. Naruto Uzumaki would want nothing more than to see two capable ninjas succeed him as the Hokage, and we, as fans, also cannot wait to see these events unfold.
