Boruto: Two Blue Vortex features quite a lot of powerful abilities introduced by author Mikio Ikemoto, with one greater than the other. However, when it comes to strong Dojutsu, the Rinnegan still stands at the very top.
Unfortunately, in the Boruto series, the creator Mikio Ikemoto has decided to nerf the Rinnegan tremendously by taking away some of its strongest abilities. This was done in order for the playing field to be leveled for some of the powerful villains to shine, and for characters like Sasuke Uchiha to take the back seat. That said, the days of the Rinnegan being nerfed could officially be over with a new Uchiha slowly being set up to awaken this eye. This person is none other than Sarada Uchiha, whose Rinnegan awakening could officially revive this power once and for all, putting it back on top as the strongest godly Dojutsu in the world of Boruto and Naruto.
Boruto Officially Downgraded The Rinnegan With Multiple Nerfs
When the Rinnegan was introduced in Naruto, it was officially stated to be the most powerful of the Three Great Dojutsu. Even in the Pain arc or in the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Rinnegan stood on top as the most powerful eye seen in the world of Naruto. However, this eye took a severe hit in the Boruto series, where, for whatever reason, it was downgraded and weakened tremendously. The Rinnegan offers six main Paths, those being:
- The Animal Path
- The Preta Path
- The Naraka Path
- The Human Path
- The Deva Path
- The Asura Path.

All these Paths offer tremendous capabilities, yet in the Boruto series, specifically in the manga written by Mikio Ikemoto, none of these powers have been utilized even once. In fact, the non-utilization of these powers has led to some major plot holes being created in the story.
For instance, when Momoshiki used the Shadow Bind technique on Sasuke and Naruto in Boruto Chapter 8, on December 12, 2016, Sasuke Uchiha should easily have been able to absorb this ninjutsu through his Rinnegan without even having to lift a finger. Unfortunately, he was not able to do so because this power was nerfed by the author. Similarly, Kinshiki's weapons, which he used to fight against Sasuke, were stated to be made of chakra and could easily have been absorbed by the Uchiha, but once again, they were left untouched for unknown reasons.
Sasuke also never utilizes his gravitational powers in combat or the various abilities that his Rinnegan offers him, other than Amenotejikara, which is what this eye was reduced to. Even the Shinju, all of whom wield the power of the Rinnegan, do not utilize this ability at all at this point. At the moment, the Rinnegan is just for show in Boruto, which is unfortunate. However, with the character of Sarada Uchiha, who we all know possesses tremendous capabilities and has a lot of potential, this eye can officially be revived.

Why Sarada Uchiha Can Finally Revive The Rinnegan
Sarada Uchiha is one of the prime contenders to awaken the Rinnegan in the future of the Boruto series. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 20, which was released on March 18, 2025, Sarada had already awakened the Mangeky Sharingan and used it to great effect. In the future, her eye will be drastically upgraded, and she will gain more Dojutsu abilities to counter threats such as Hidari, and potentially even Jura, just like her father. That said, an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan isn't powerful enough to see her fight at the top level.
"For too long, I've averted my gaze. Fretting that my goal to become Hokage felt out of reach. Never being able to do anything about the calamities that happen. I rejected everything, not realizing that I also rejected the power sleeping inside me. I'm not looking away anymore. If Sarada truly wishes to become the Hokage and stand side by side with Boruto Uzumaki, she needs the power of the Rinnegan. Thankfully, through Sasuke Uchiha, Sarada already has the necessary chakra required to awaken the Rinnegan. This situation can be directly compared to that of Himawari Uzumaki, who inherited some chakra of the Nine Tails through Naruto Uzumaki, as was confirmed by Kurama himself in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 10 on May 20, 2024. With Sarada having received Sasuke's chakra, it is entirely possible that she will go on to awaken the Rinnegan in the future, and that is a development we absolutely cannot wait to see.
Sasuke Uchiha And Sarada Could Restore The Dojutsu Back To Its Full Strength
Provided Sarada Uchiha awakens the Rinnegan, she will definitely take this eye back to the very top. Her Mangekyo Sharingan is already strong enough to compete with Sasuke's Rinnegan in the Boruto series, and if that is upgraded to a Rinnegan, she will naturally be much stronger. Through Sarada, the 6 basic powers of the Rinnegan can be brought back, and she could be given full freedom to control all of them in unique ways. Sarada would also gain a unique Rinnegan ability in this case, just like Sasuke, if she goes on to awaken this powerful eye.
All things considered, the Boruto series has set up the pathway to the revival of the Rinnegan through Sarada Uchiha, and we absolutely cannot wait to see that. Furthermore, Sasuke Uchiha himself could still go on to awaken the Rinnegan in his second eye. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, specifically in Naruto Chapter #673, which was released on May 5, 2014, Sasuke showcased his Rinnegan for the first time. Back then, it only matured in one eye, but there is no saying that he cannot awaken it in his other eye as well. If Sasuke also goes on to reawaken the Rinnegan, then this father-daughter duo is going to be absolutely unstoppable in combat.

What makes things even more interesting is that the new arc of Boruto, which began officially on June 18, 2026, with the release of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35, is officially focusing on Sarada Uchiha and setting up the return of Sasuke following the death of Hidari. We absolutely cannot wait for this father-daughter reunion and to see them fight side by side so they can go on to attain even greater powers in the future.
