The world of One Piece features the incredible Devil Fruits as its primary power system. Devil Fruits are mystical fruits that grant unique powers to the eater at the cost of their ability to swim. Naturally, they're all highly coveted. While the vast majority of the Devil Fruits feature basic abilities, Oda has also introduced quite a few unique Devil Fruits that stand out in one way or another, either breaking the rules of Devil Fruits, or existing as unique entities on their own.

7 Mochi Mochi no Mi

mochi mochi no mi Most Unique Devil Fruits One Piece
  • User: Katakuri
  • Type: Special Paramecia

The Mochi Mochi no Mi is a Devil Fruit that was first seen in Whole Cake Island. It was eaten by Katakuri, one of the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates, and it grants him the power to become mochi, as well as freely produce and manipulate it. The Mochi Mochi no Mi is unique as it is the only Devil Fruit in the whole story of One Piece that belongs to the Special Paramecia category, and at this rate, it seems like this Devil Fruit will be the only one to ever belong to this subcategory.

The category of Special Paramecia was technically invented for the sake of this Devil Fruit. At first, Oda categorized the Mochi Mochi no Mi as a logia; however, he realized that it didn't make sense, as mochi is not a natural element or a force of nature, forcing him to switch.

6 Yami Yami no Mi

  • User: Blackbeard
  • Type: Logia

The Yami Yami no Mi is known as the strongest Logia Devil Fruit and it was highly coveted by Marshall D. Teech, who now has it under his control. This Devil Fruit is one of the most unique fruits in the whole of One Piece, and this is due to its special nature. Even though it is a Logia Devil Fruit, it does not exactly operate under the same rules as the others. For one, Blackbeard does not gain the intangibility of Logia Fruits with the darkness of the Yami Yami no Mi.

On top of that, this Devil Fruit causes its user to take double the damage, which has not been seen with any fruit. In exchange, however, the Yami Yami no Mi is given a very unique ability to absorb other Devil Fruit powers. The darkness of the Yami Yami no Mi will be absolutely essential in the final saga of the series.

5 Yomi Yomi no Mi

  • User: Brook
  • Type: Paramecia

The Yomi Yomi no Mi is a Paramecia Devil Fruit that was eaten by one of the Straw Hats, Brook. This fruit is also known as the Revival Devil Fruit, and it's unique as it bypasses some restrictions of standard fruits, which is quite interesting.

When Brook ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi, it had no effect, so for most of his life, it was completely useless. What makes this Devil Fruit so unique is the fact that it only activates after the user's death, which is technically when other Devil Fruits stop working and reincarnate. No other Devil Fruit in One Piece is capable of doing that. After Brook died, the Devil Fruit revived him and also granted him some soul powers.

4 Akuma no Mi

  • User: Imu
  • Type: Unknown

Nerona Imu is set up to be the final antagonist of the One Piece series. As such, it's unsurprising to see that he possesses one of the most unique Devil Fruits in the whole series. While the name of Imu's Devil Fruit was unknown for a large portion of the story, Oda finally revealed that he has the power of the Akuma no Mi, or literally just "The Devil Fruit". Naming-wise, it's already unique and makes it like a Devil Fruit in a category of its own. But, more importantly, Imu's powers are different from any other Devil Fruit as instead of Kanji, it uses Katakana and doesn't have the double-name pattern.

It is implied that Imu's Devil Fruit is the first one to appear in the story, and details surrounding its origin remain a mystery. Even the abilities it grants are quite unique. The Akuma no Mi possesses elements from all three types of Devil Fruits, and it grants him magic-like powers, as well as the power to grant other things like immortality, regeneration, superhuman strength, and even Yokai Powers using various Contracts.

3 Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika

  • User: Luffy
  • Type: Mythical Zoan

For the vast majority of the One Piece story, fans were under the impression that Luffy had eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi, a Paramecia-type rubber devil fruit. However, during the Wano arc, in his battle against Kaido, this was proven to be wrong. Luffy's true Devil Fruit is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

This misconception for over two decades on its own makes this Devil Fruit unique. What makes the Nika Devil Fruit unique as well is that it seems to only truly activate and grant its true abilities when it is Awakened. Beyond that, the Nika Fruit also grants its user the power to bring anything into reality from boundless imagination, which means that Luffy can create almost everything he can think of. It also defies some Devil Fruit rules. Despite being a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, Luffy has also shown the ability to affect his environment, which is the power associated with Paramecia Awakenings.

2 Tama Tama no Mi

  • User: Tamago
  • Type: Zoan

When it comes to odd Devil Fruits, few can compete with the Tama Tama no Mi. The Tama Tama no Mi is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that was eaten by Tamago, a member of the Big Mom Pirates. This Zoan Devil Fruit grants its user the power to become an egg, and it is definitely different from other Zoan transformations. Its ability related to it being an egg is also quite intriguing.

Every time Tamago is killed, he comes back, but in an evolved form that makes him look more like a chicken each time. He has three forms in total, those being Baron Tamago, Viscount Hiyoko, and Count Niwatori. He simply keeps cycling between his forms every time he is killed. The only way to kill him is to strike when he's a yolk. This devil fruit is definitely more of a gag from Oda, but it remains quite intriguing. Sadly, it doesn't seem like fans will get a closer look at it again in the final saga.

1 Yokai

yokai Strongest Mythical Zoan Transformations one piece
  • User: Five Elders
  • Type: Mythical Zoan (Presumed)

The Five Elders made their first proper entrance in One Piece during the Egghead Arc, where Eiichiro Oda unveiled their powers. Each of the Five Elders possesses a unique Yokai ability. While, to many fans, these abilities seemed like Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits, the way Oda introduced these powers seems to suggest they are a bit different.

Oda introduced every Yokai as a power of its own without tying them to any Devil Fruit. This alone makes their abilities unique. Instead of a Devil Fruit, their powers stem from Imu's own Akuma no Mi. The truth behind these Yokai powers has yet to be unveiled, but for now, they are definitely unique in the world of One Piece.
