The Makeshift Projectile is a key item in Mortal Shell 2 that can be used in a very specific location to reveal the entrance to a hidden dungeon.
However, the game doesn’t tell you where to find the Makeshift Projectile, how to use it, or what it does when you do use it. Here’s the breakdown.
How to Get Makeshift Projectile in Mortal Shell 2
The Makeshift Projectile is an item that you can use to fire a shot from a catapult in the Mammon region. This shot will land in front of the Alchemist's Workshop dungeon, revealing its hidden entrance. The screenshot above shows all three locations.
Makeshift Projectile Location

The Makeshift Projectile can be found in the southernmost part of the starting island in the Ruins of Mammon, just below the end of the large stone bridge south of the Outskirts of Mammon beacon.
To get here, run past the army of soldiers defending the gate leading to the stone bridge, then jump to the right to reach the level below. Go straight south from here, and you’ll find the Makeshift Projectile at the edge of the cliff, protected by some Grisha Hunters.
Don’t forget to pick up the Foundry Stone from the chest next to the gate. It unlocks the refund upgrade costs function at the Tarforge.

Catapult Location

The Makeshift Projectile can be used at the catapult found southwest of the Outskirts of Mammon beacon, right next to the statue where Ruk gives you the Map of Mammon 5 map fragment.
Interact with the catapult at this location, and it will ask you if you want to “Place Ammo” into the machine using the Makeshift Projectile. Select “Yes,” and you’ll see the catapult activate, and the Makeshift Projectile will be launched into the distance.
Where Does the Makeshift Projectile Land?
Alchemist's Workshop Location
After the Makeshift Projectile is fired, it lands right in front of the entrance to the Alchemist’s Workshop dungeon, located in the island chain west of Castigator’s Keep and east of the Gate of Mammon beacon. When you arrive at this location, you’ll see that the Makeshift Projectile has made a crater in the mountainside, near the miners, revealing the entrance to the Alchemist’s Workshop dungeon.
If you don’t fire the Makeshift Projectile, the entrance to the Alchemist’s Workshop dungeon will be concealed behind a false wall. When the Makeshift Projectile hits this wall, the false wall is destroyed, and the entrance is revealed.
Using the Makeshift Projectile is not required to access the Alchemist’s Workshop. The false wall hiding the entrance to this dungeon can be destroyed with a regular attack regardless.
