This Mortal Shell 2 progression guide details a route that players can follow to beat the game. This route centers around cleansing the game's six Corrupted Gates, which provide the 168 Ovum that are required to access the final area. If you're stuck, this Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough will tell you where to go next.

This guide provides the most streamlined path from the beginning to the end of Mortal Shell 2. However, exploration is a huge part of the game, and it's highly recommended that you spend time clearing dungeons, looking for weapons and Shells, and collecting upgrade materials as you work from one step to the next.

1. Activate the Widow's Overlook Beacon

A map showing the first part of the progression route in Mortal Shell 2.

After completing the prologue and exploring Marrow Keep, ride the lift in the room past the room with the Gloom Siphon. Now, use the metal platform at the edge of the roof to travel to Fainweald and activate the Widow's Overlook beacon.

2. Go to the Mushroom Village & Get the Tiel Shell

Head east from the Widow's Overlook beacon to reach the Mushroom Village. Activate the beacon here and pick up the map fragment, which is represented as a crow on the map. Then go to the south side of the village to collect the Tiel Shell from the open grave.

Tiel is very powerful, and can definitely be used throughout the entirety of the game. However, if you aren't happy with his stealthy playstyle, see our Best Shells to Get First guide for alternative options.

3. Cleanse the Mushroom Village Gate

Go to the Corrupted Gate on the east side of the village and cleanse the Mushroom Village Gate beacon in front of it to gain access. Enter the gate, beat Magdalena, the Lady of the Wood, and cleanse the beacon that appears to claim its Ovum. If you're struggling with this boss, check our How to Beat Magdalena guide.

You're automatically sent back to Marrow Keep when you cleanse a gate, and you should use those trips as opportunities to upgrade weapons, firearms, and Tarstones, to buy maps and sell items, and to unlock Shell memories.

4. Activate the Black Ridge Pass Beacon

When you've taken care of your business at Marrow Keep, return to the Widow's Overlook beacon and head north to reach the Blackridge Pass beacon. The trip to the next gate can be difficult, which makes this respawn point especially important.

5. Go to the Sanguine Caverns & Cleanse the Stonebled Gate

It's now time to head to the Sanguine Caverns to the north and cleanse the Corrupted Gate at its north end. Make sure to spend some time grabbing map fragments (marked by crows), activating beacons, and clearing dungeons along the way, as exploration leads to equipment and levels that are keys to success. After beating the Lost Child at the end of the gate, cleanse the beacon that appears to earn Ovum and return to Marrow Keep.

6. Use the Bone Gate South of Widow's Overlook

A map showing the third part of the progression route in Mortal Shell 2.

Return to the Widow's Overlook beacon and head south to find a Bone Gate. This portal sends you to the area with Fainweald's third Corrupted Gate, which is your next target.

7. Cleanse the Nochtean Gate

Work your way across the Ruins of Nocthe to reach the Nochtean Gate beacon. Cleanse it, enter the Corrupted Gate, and complete it to claim your Ovum. You're now finished with Fainweald, and it's time to move on to the Ruins of Mammon.

8. Go to the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon

Use the lift in Marrow Keep to return to the roof, and cleanse the corruption opposite the platform you initially used to travel to Fainweald. The platform beyond the corruption will send you to Mammon, and the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon is your first target.

Notably, the Ruins of Mammon are undeniably more difficult than Fainweald, and the enemies near the Outskirts of Mammon beacon will quickly show you if you are under-leveled. If you're really struggling with the initial enemies you encounter in Mammon, I'd recommend spending some more time exploring Fainweald and returning when you have earned some more levels and further upgraded your equipment. You can also use our Best Early Game Gloom Farm guide to speed up your leveling.

9. Cleanse the Mammon Gates

There are three Corrupted Gates in the Ruins of Mammon, and you can really cleanse them in any order. That said, the Gate of Mammon on the west side of the area is perhaps the easiest to reach, as you can get to it without passing over the Road of Absolution directly south of the Outskirts of Mammon beacon. Indeed, the Road of Absolution can be a bit challenging when you first arrive in Mammon, and you'll be better prepared for it if you clear the west gate first.

Follow the roads and bridges west of the Outskirts of Mammon beacon to pass by a map fragment and reach a Bone Gate that leads to the area with the Gate of Mammon.

10. Cleanse the Unfound Path

You've now collected more than 168 Ovum, which means that you can open a new path in Marrow Keep that leads to the game's final area, the Unfound Path. Simply approach the NPC in the room with the Gloom Siphon to open that path, and defeat the four bosses in the area to beat the game.

If you've been pursuing optional content, you may reach 168 Ovum before you cleanse the final Corrupted Gate. If that occurs, you're free to visit the Unfound Path immediately, though there is certainly no rush to do so.

Notably, beating the final boss doesn't trigger the end credits. Indeed, you'll be able to continue exploring on your current save file once you defeat that foe, and you get to decide exactly when you see the credits and initiate NG+.
