The best Tiel build in Mortal Shell 2 focuses on guaranteeing huge critical hits with the Escalation, Deathmark, Ambush, and Critical Role skills. While a variety of equipment can be used alongside those skills, Tarstones that improve melee crits, like Auspicious Stone and Headsman's Stone really shine, as do heavy weapons like the Iconoclast, Veteran's Battle Axe, and Great Martyrs' Blade. Players can use this critical damage Tiel build in Mortal Shell 2 to easily defeat enemies and beat the game.

Mortal Shell 2 Tiel Build

The best Tiel build in Mortal Shell 2.

Shell Points

In the early game, invest in skills from Tiers 1 and 2 that improve the damage dealt by your Shadow Strike. Here's what I'd recommend:

  • 2 levels of Escalation (Tier 1) to make Shadow Strikes deal 140% damage.
  • 3 levels of Deathmark (Tier 2) to improve Shadow Strike crits and apply Fragile.

If you still have some Shell Points left over before unlocking Tier 3, take some levels in Lasting Legacy (Tier 1) if you want to stay stealth for longer or in Nightstride (Tier 2) if you want to make it easier to activate Shadow Dash.

Once you unlock Tier 3 in the mid-game, the build really comes online with the following:

  • 3 levels of Ambush (Tier 3) to make hits from behind extremely powerful. This skill sets up the build's core combat loop: activate stealth, Shadow Strike an enemy from behind, re-activate stealth (with a Shadow Dash or otherwise), and then heavy attack from behind.

If you still have some Shell Points left over before unlocking Tier 4, take some levels in Nightstride (Tier 2) to make re-activating stealth before the loop's final heavy attack easier. Alternatively, if you have some Lasting Legacy (Tier 1) levels, you can go for Shadow Stalk (Tier 3). This combination allows you to turn your longer stealth into more powerful Shadow Strikes, though maximizing its effects requires slowing down combat.

When you gain access to Tier 4 in the late game, you can grab the build's last key components:

  • 1 level of Seal Affinity (Tier 3). This lets you re-activate stealth without performing a Shadow Dash, making the combat loop even easier to execute: activate stealth, Shadow Strike an enemy from behind, block the enemies attack to re-activate stealth, and then heavy attack from behind.
  • 3 levels of Critical Role (Tier 3) to make the loop's heavy attacks deal a ton of damage.

The build is now fully functional with just 22 of 40 Shell Points used. You can make it even better, though, with a final build like this:

Tier 1

  • Escalation (2 Levels)
  • Lasting Legacy (2 Levels)

Tier 2

  • Deathmark (3 Levels)
  • Nightstride (4 Levels)

Tier 3

  • Shadow Stalk (2 Levels)
  • Ambush (3 Levels)

Tier 4

  • Critical Role (3 Levels)
  • Seal Affinity (2 Levels)

The only skills that are absolutely critical to the build are Escalation (2), Deathmark (3), Ambush (3), Critical Role (3), and Seal Affinity (1). Feel free to experiment with the remaining Shell Points if you're interested in trying out Tiel's poison effects. Alternatively, put even more points towards Shadow Stalk and Lasting Legacy to further improve that combo.

Playing the Build

While the build's core combat loop is referenced in the Shell Points section above, here's an overview of how to put it all together:

  1. Activate Lingering Shadow before engaging an enemy.
  2. If you've put points into Shadow Stalk, stay stealth for as long as possible to increase your Shadow Strike damage. Points you've put into Lasting Legacy will extend your stealth duration.
  3. Use Shadow Strike to hit the enemy from behind. This strike will receive the benefits of Escalation, Deathmark, Ambush, and Shadow Stalk (if you've invested there), and apply Fragile.
  4. Block the enemy's next attack to gain stealth from Seal Affinity. Alternatively, re-gain stealth by dodging just before the attack to activate Shadow Dash.
  5. Perform a heavy attack that hits the enemy from behind. This attack is guaranteed to crit (due to Critical Role), gets increased critical hit damage from Ambush and Critical Role, and is pushed even further by the Fragile stacks Deathmark applies. Additionally, this attack should replenish your Resolve, allowing you to easily repeat the loop infinitely.

Tiel Equipment

Tiel with the Headmans Stone Tarstone equipped in Mortal Shell 2.

This build can really shine with many combinations of equipment, and you should feel free to experiment with Tarstones, weapons, and sidearms. However, here are some recommendations for gear that works very well with the build:

Tarstones

  • Support: Auspicious Stone and Headsman's Stone are the obvious options, as they both improve melee crits.
  • Combat: Grudge Stone makes it even more likely that you'll crit with Shadow Strikes. You could also consider Duality Stone if you're using a weapon that supports it, though you won't be doing a lot of light attack combos when combat is going as intended.
  • Infusions: If you've opted to support the build's crit-focused foundation with poison effects, Serpent Stone and Hag Stone are reasonable options for supported weapons and firearms. However, I prefer not to use any unnecessary Resolve, as it can interrupt the build's combat loop.
  • Abilities: You can try using the Unwieldy Stone to turn the loop's heavy attack into a charged heavy attack. This will interrupt the loop, though, requiring you to spend some time outside of stealth gaining Resolve.

See our Best Tarstones to Get First guide for more information.

Weapons & Sidearms

While fast weapons like the Axe & Dagger and Axatana seem more in keeping with Tiel's style, I prefer to use heavy weapons like the Iconoclast, Veteran's Battle Axe, and Great Martyrs' Blade. Indeed, this build is really about unleashing big critical strikes out of stealth, which is exactly what those weapons will do. That said, you can deal tons of damage with any weapon when the build comes online, and you should find what feels best to you.

Check our All Weapon Locations guide if you need help finding anything.

Seals

I'd recommend sticking with the Untarnsihed Seal, as it makes activating stealth with Seal Affinity very easy. Vatra's Seal and Infinite Seal also work, though, and you can certainly use them if you prefer.
