Insomniac Games has officially confirmed one of the main settings players will visit in Marvel's Wolverine, taking the iconic hero to the streets of Tokyo. The initial reveal appeared as part of a major trailer for Marvel's Wolverine during Sony's recent State of Play showcase.
The newest Marvel title from Insomniac Games has already given fans plenty to be excited about ahead of its release. The game will feature appearances from a wide variety of heroes and villains from throughout the X-Men canon, including beloved characters like Sabretooth, Jean Grey, and Mystique, among several others. Now, Insomniac is sharing more details about one of the major locations players will visit in Marvel's Wolverine.
Marvel's Wolverine Will Feature Tokyo as a Major Setting
Marvel's Wolverine will officially bring players to one of the biggest cities in the world, allowing fans to explore Tokyo. Insomniac Games revealed that Tokyo will be a featured setting in the game's story via its official social media accounts, sharing a clip from the recent extended gameplay showcase for Marvel's Wolverine. The brief clip shows Wolverine leaping from a rooftop in the Japanese capital, suggesting that players may be able to explore parts of the city when the game releases on September 15. Insomniac Games did not disclose how expansive the game's version of Tokyo will be, only referring to it as a "key story location."

The brief teaser provides plenty of new information about the depiction of Tokyo featured in Marvel's Wolverine, despite its short runtime. Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted a billboard for the Roxxon Corporation in the background of the shot, potentially setting up the company as a major player in the story. The trailer featured a more casual outfit for Wolverine, donning a leather jacket and jeans, with Insomniac teasing more Wolverine outfits set to be revealed before the game's launch. Marvel also confirmed after the State of Play that players will have the option to censor Marvel's Wolverine, toning down some of the blood and gore in the game.

The official gameplay showcase shared more details about the universe of Marvel's Wolverine as well. Insomniac confirmed that, at the time of the story of Marvel's Wolverine, the X-Men have not been officially formed by Professor Charles Xavier, though multiple X-Men characters are set to appear.

Marvel's Wolverine was just one member of a stacked lineup of games that appeared in the June State of Play presentation. Sony's first-party and published games were among the biggest highlights of the showcase, with the company officially revealing God of War: Laufey and Until Dawn 2. The livestream also included a multitude of major third-party games planned to release on PS5 throughout the rest of the year, including Control Resonant, Ace Combat 8, and Phantom Blade Zero, among others. Sony fans should have lots to be excited about throughout the rest of 2026, with several big-name games coming to PS5.
