Marvel's Wolverine developer Insomniac Games stated that the upcoming PS5 title will include an option for players to turn off the game's blood and gore. Marvel's Wolverine was the first game shown off during the hour-long State of Play broadcast on June 2.

The show shared a look into the gritty gameplay of Marvel's Wolverine, which included snippets of stealth gameplay ahead of some visceral combat scenes. As the titular Marvel anti-hero, players can use Wolverine's retractable adamantium claws and animal instincts to dart through foes. Marvel's Wolverine pre-orders went live on the PlayStation Store shortly after the State of Play presentation. The upcoming title from Insomiac Games will include a $69.99 standard edition and a $79.99 digital deluxe edition. The former will include exclusive suits and claws for Logan to wear, along with all the bonuses included with the standard version.

Players Can Make Marvel's Wolverine Less Gory

Though Marvel's Wolverine will include brutal combat sequences, some players may be put off by the game's violent content. In an IGN interview, Wolverine game director Mike Daly stated that the upcoming PS5 exclusive will have an accessibility option to censor the game's blood and gore. Although Wolverine will become soaked in blood during close-quarters combat, it will quickly fade off. However, Daly stated that the development team knows that the violent content of Marvel's Wolverine is not for everyone. Part of the game's combat will involve Wolverine issuing lethal takedowns with his adamantium claws, which can carve through anyone or anything. Ergo, Insomniac will include options that will make Marvel's Wolverine more tolerable for players who may be squeamish at the sight of blood and gore.

According to Insomiac Games' support page, these options for customizing the game's violent content include toggles for how much blood appears in gameplay cutscenes, whether dismemberment will be censored or off, and the level of visible damage on Logan's body. Marvel's Wolverine will also include accessibility options that can alter the overall challenge level of the game, including the ability to automatically complete quick time events (QTEs) without needing to press a button. The possibility to turn off motion blur and camera shaking is also included. Given that motion blur can cause some players to feel sick, being able to turn it off when playing Marvel's Wolverine is one worth considering.

Additionally, Marvel's Wolverine will support PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling on PS5 Pro consoles. PSSR will allow Marvel's Wolverine to run at a resolution of 4K while maintaining high framerates when traveling through the dense Canadian wildnerness that the game is set in. Since Marvel's Wolverine will also include some high-speed chase sequences, it remains to be seen how the game's performance will hold up.
