When immersive tech stops being a novelty and becomes a LIFELINE for human connection, that's true innovation!!! 💜🕶️ Rendever just secured $4.5 million in NIH funding. Not because they're hyping metaverse dreams. Because their VR platform is SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN to overcome social isolation in seniors. Let that sink in: Virtual Reality doesn't just entertain older adults. It literally extends their lifespans through connection, memory, and joy. Watch the video. An 80-year-old puts on a headset and says "I'm flooded with memories." Another asks "Where should we travel today?" A caregiver says "This is the best tool in my toolkit." That's not marketing. That's transformation. The research is undeniable: Falls reduce by 48% in 4 weeks. Family engagement bridges distances. Dementia patients reconnect with dignity. Caregiver burnout decreases. Community satisfaction scores jump 40%+ in 8 weeks. 🔹 Reminiscence Therapy — Revisit childhood homes, wedding locations, life milestones. Restore identity through memory, not medication. 📩 Shared Multiplayer Experiences — Families separated by miles play together, laugh together, CREATE together in shared virtual spaces. 🥽 Healthcare-Grade Impact — This isn't entertainment. It's clinical intervention with measurable outcomes and sustainable business models. No ROI spreadsheet needed. The joy is the proof. The opportunity is massive: 500+ senior living communities already deployed. Now expanding to home care. India's aging population? Southeast Asia's residential communities? Africa's emerging senior markets? The addressable market is BILLIONS in unmet human need. By 2027, every senior care facility without VR-based connection protocols will be viewed as operationally deficient. What does aging look like when technology means connection instead of isolation? #VirtualReality #HealthTech #MentalHealth #Care #Family #Wellness

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with philanthropist Wendy Schmidt, who founded The Schmidt Family Foundation with her husband, Eric. Schmidt's approach to solving some of the planet's most pressing issues is rooted in "systems thinking," a holistic method that considers the interconnections within ecological, social, and economic systems. Schmidt’s journey into this realm began unexpectedly through her career as an interior designer. It was here that she became acutely aware of how design choices impact resource use and waste generation. This awareness grew into a commitment to addressing broader environmental challenges, particularly those related to climate change, food systems, equity, and ocean health. Her dedication led to the creation of initiatives aimed at fostering systemic change. An emerging part of Schmidt’s vision involves utilizing new media & immersive experiences to foster a deeper connection with environmental issues. She believes that virtual reality and other emerging technologies offer unique opportunities to engage the public in ways traditional media cannot. "We are just entering this new chapter of media, representing a sense of wonder and possibility for storytelling," she said. By creating interactive, immersive experiences, Schmidt hopes to change how people perceive and relate to the natural world, fostering a greater sense of responsibility & stewardship. In April, Grist founder Chip Giller & Schmidt announced the launch of Agog, a philanthropic institute that helps nonprofits harness the power of extended reality (XR) technologies to spur positive social transformation, opening new avenues for empathy, understanding, and activism. This approach is exemplified by the Schmidt Ocean Institute's use of real-time footage from deep-sea expeditions. These broadcasts allow anyone with internet access to join scientists as they explore previously unseen parts of the ocean. Such initiatives aspire to not only democratize access to scientific discoveries but also highlight the beauty & fragility of marine ecosystems, inspiring a broader audience to care about ocean conservation. However, Schmidt is aware of the challenges and criticisms associated with new tech. Concerns about virtual reality and augmented reality creating further disconnection from the real world are valid, but she believes these tools, when used purposefully, can enhance our understanding and empathy for the natural world. She advocates for experiences that are thoughtfully designed to offer insight & foster a deeper connection with the environment, rather than merely serving as escapist entertainment. Schmidt places a strong emphasis on inclusion, ensuring the benefits of these initiatives are accessible & that they create solutions that are innovative & deeply rooted in respect for the natural world. "We have the creativity and resilience as a species to make these changes; it's crucial for our survival," she said. https://mongabay.cc/Y4er8k

The #VR company Rendever has just secured nearly US$ 4.5 million in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand its initiatives designed to reduce social isolation and support mental #health for older adults and their caregivers. What makes this so important? ✅ The funding supports VR-enabled social networks and at-home programmes, helping seniors and caregivers stay connected even when physically apart. ✅ There’s clear alignment with critical societal challenges: ageing populations, loneliness, caregiving burdens. ✅ It underscores how immersive technology (VR) is not just for gaming or training. It’s increasingly meaningful in #healthcare, #wellbeing and social impact. 💡 My take-away: As we continue to explore extended reality and meaningful engagement, the real breakthroughs will emerge when we focus on people, connection, and outcomes. And this is a perfect example. #MentalHealth #SocialImpact #TechForGood #VirtualReality

Sometimes the most powerful impact of #VR isn’t in a #classroom. It’s in places most people never get to see. My colleague Kate Kimmer, Director of Targeted Populations Initiatives, recently shared her experience from Missouri, where Transfr had its first successful statewide Department of Corrections (#DOC) deployment across 21 prisons. She visited 5 facilities with our teammate Joseph Guillen and saw firsthand how immersive learning is changing #reentry. Two stories stood out: ➡️ Residents who had spent years in segregation, never completing programs, were given a chance to explore careers through Transfr. ➡️ Those same residents are now serving as peer mentors, helping others step into programming they themselves had once resisted. What changed? 🔹 They discovered they were good at something. 🔹 They realized there are jobs they could pursue and employers who would hire them. 🔹 And maybe, most importantly, they experienced what it feels like to prepare for life 𝑏𝑒𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑠. These are men society had once given up on. Today, they’re investing in themselves and in the success of others. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢. Back in December 2024, I had the opportunity to support Kate during a similar demonstration in York, PA, where Transfr was introduced at York County Prison in partnership with SCPa Works and the York County Reentry Coalition. That work, too, showed how Transfr can give people new pathways. Right here in our own backyards. That’s the power of immersive learning. 👉 It doesn’t just build skills. 👉 It builds confidence, hope, and pathways forward. Question for you: If VR can create change at this scale in Missouri and Pennsylvania, what could be possible if every state made reentry a priority?

Inclusive classrooms are foundational to equitable education. They ensure that learners of different abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, and languages are not merely accommodated, but meaningfully engaged and empowered. Yet achieving true inclusion requires more than policy statements — it demands pedagogical innovation, accessible design, and thoughtful integration of technology. In our new publication, we examine how #VirtualReality (VR), #AugmentedReality (AR), and #ExtendedReality (XR) can support inclusive education when grounded in frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), social constructivism, and critical pedagogy. We explore practical applications including: • Enhancing learning for students with disabilities • Supporting socioeconomically disadvantaged learners • Addressing cultural and linguistic barriers • Fostering empathy and social-emotional development At the same time, we address essential considerations: data privacy, ethical content development, teacher readiness, sustainability, and policy alignment. Technology alone does not guarantee equity; responsible design and implementation do. Grateful to my co-authors, Nidhi Sutar, Dinesh Kumar, Balkar Punia and Wiley for this meaningful collaboration. https://lnkd.in/ghuWNfxi
