It was Steve Jobs, calling about a job at Apple. My kids couldn’t have cared less. My daughter wanted ice cream, and my son was just happy yanking on my sleeve. I told Steve Jobs it was a bad time to talk. What happened next — a flight to Cupertino, a forty-five-minute conversation across a table from the most exacting person in American business, and one question I couldn't answer — changed how I thought about my career, about the advertising industry, and about what it actually means to hold yourself to a standard. Cameron Barrett liked thisCameron Barrett liked thisA wp-cli bug was filed in 2018 and was still sitting there marked unconfirmed eight years later. A table at WordCamp US Contributor Day took it apart today and found the reason nobody had ever managed to verify it. It was not one bug. It was three different problems filed under a single title, so every attempt across eight years picked up a different one. They split them, got the real one down to a thirty-second reproduction that needs nothing installed, then built the fix in two forms and asked the maintainers which one they wanted. Their own summary: writing the fix was not the hard part, proving the problem was real after eight years was. Twenty-nine people made their first ever contribution to WordPress today, some of them remotely. Twenty-two pull requests opened against core, twenty-one shipped across the project, eleven themes reviewed for accessibility, and one table benchmarking a 72% improvement loading the dashboard from the login screen. John Hooks pitched and ran the table that spent the day drafting the outline for version 1.0 of the WordPress AI guidelines. Dimitrios Pantazis was at the static analysis table working through PHPStan errors in core, which is unglamorous and makes everybody else's next patch easier to review. David Johnson spent his on testing the tooling new contributors have to get through before they can contribute anything at all, and Mike Auteri was hosting a table for GatherPress. Excited to have participated myself on the Hosting table for the first time, lots of good stuff that I didn't know was happening. Opened 9 PR's today with that group, and will try to keep pushing on that. #WordPress #WordCamp #WCUS

The complication was that three of the talent were not available for the shoot day, so we had to use stand ins and come back the next week to shoot inserts before we could edit it all together and make the seamless promo seen here. Cameron Barrett liked thisCameron Barrett liked thisI need to give a shoutout to Automattic. Society does not make life easy for mothers who want to work. You hear tons of talk about inclusion of women in the workplace (from some), and from others you hear about the need to encourage people to have more kids. But as a working mom, the reality is I have see more talk than ACTION when it comes to supporting these goals. Automatic is the exception ❤️ Not only do they provide 6 months of maternity leave, but I just discovered they cover the cost of a caregiver while traveling and breastfeeding. We want to give our kids the best, and one of the most painful things about being a mom is having to sacrifice your child’s emotional well-being or health to support your own career. The guilt is real. This benefit is something more than a gym membership or expensing home office equipment; those are great, but this supports families, mothers, and kids on a whole different level. It helps with the hardest part of working motherhood: the guilt. It makes me feel supported. It makes me feel UNDERSTOOD, which is even rarer. This is what REAL pro-family, pro-women policies look like. It’s a real expense for Automattic, but it has more of an impact than any perk I’ve received. Thanks Matt Mullenweg

Today we announce the launch of the Charity Action Network (CAN), a new nonprofit I have wanted to build, coincidentally, for the last 5.5 years. Our mission is to solve big problems globally by helping nonprofits, individuals, and companies give more easily and more Time and Treasure in three ways: - Our Consulting practice (available now helping great clients like DetecTogether) - Our Giving Exchange (available 1Q27) - Our Charity Co-Op (available 2Q27) The RFP to build the Giving Exchange will be sent to >40 Tech firms Aug. 20-21 with a goal to accelerate the donations of Money, Time, and Stuff (including Ad Inventory) the same way Ad Exchanges accelerated the sale of digital ads over the past 15 years. Leveraging many of the successes we've had at Prohaska Consulting helping 650+ clients with 500+ teammates over the past 12+ years, we at CAN will be showing how #Data & #Tech can be used for good. I am incredibly proud and grateful to be leading both organizations going forward. When the ElevenLabs connector dropped for Claude Desktop last week, I had another one of my "what if" moments. These days, a trend is for everyone to ask their LLM to generate images based on everything it knows about them from past conversations. That’s cool, I guess, but what if Claude could use that same context to generate a music track perfectly suited to my vibe? So I asked. And the music generation prompt Claude came up with was kinda groovy: "Warm lo-fi jazz with bossa nova influences, medium tempo around 85 BPM. Vintage analog warmth with slightly dusty vinyl texture. Soft Rhodes piano, gentle acoustic guitar with Brazilian fingerpicking style, subtle upright bass groove, brushed drums. Hints of tropical atmosphere — distant ocean, morning light feeling. Modern production with retro soul. Creative energy that flows rather than rushes. Instrumental." The generated track was... pretty great! Slightly unsettling how well an AI can profile you (Claude and I have never spoken about my music tastes), but here we are. Then the rabbit hole opened, and the “What ifs…” continued. What if we made a whole album? I switched to Claude Code for better control. A couple of hours later, Claude Code had generated: • 10 full tracks (2-3 minutes each) • Custom album artwork • Complete metadata for Apple Music/Spotify • A second album for when I wanted something punchier Both albums have become my actual go-to background music for creative and coding work. I burned through over 50,000 ElevenLabs API credits in the process, but no regrets! (okay maybe some regrets) 👀 Here's track 1, “First Light”, from the album, "Compile Time". In Part 1, I introduced behavior as the primary design material for AI and the four behavioral dynamics that shape human-AI relationships: adaptation, attention, alignment, and repair. In Part 2, I explore how attention and alignment work together to establish posture and intent: who controls what, when the AI should act, what goals it pursues, and how decisions are made. In Part 3, I explore how adaptation and repair sustain posture and intent through mutual learning in co-evolving contexts.
