Why can't you write a resume?
Why can't you write a resume?
Over my many years as a recruiter I am noticing a disturbing trend on resumes. I read through 100's of resumes weekly…

Angie Hillin reacted on thisAngie Hillin reacted on thisI have been looking for work for 4 months since being laid off from my previous position, and it is GRUELING. 212 job applications. Yes, that number is right. That's 212 tailored resumes and cover letters — I'm pretty sure I've written more cover letters this year than some novelists write books. My "why I'm a great fit" paragraph practically writes itself in my sleep at this point (it does not, actually, I just really wish it did). I have almost 20 years of experience in Talent Acquisition and Employee Engagement, and somehow still can't get my foot in the door for an interview. The irony of someone in Talent Acquisition struggling to get recruited is not lost on me. I'll apply, and so will about 2,000 other extremely qualified people, for the same job. Job searching in this market is basically a lottery where the ticket costs three hours of your life and the prize is silence. For those also in the trenches — I feel your pain, and I'll save you a seat. I'm reaching out to my network again (thank you so much to those who've sent leads over the past few months — you know who you are, and you're the real MVPs). If you can share, like, or comment for reach, that helps more than you know! #opentowork #jobsearch

Angie Hillin liked thisWhat a FUN day! ConnectFest26 XGames was such a great event! Family Feud, improv, friendly competition, lots of laughs, and some really meaningful conversations and connections along the way. But honestly, my favorite part was the people. I got to see some friends I don’t get to see nearly enough, spend time with some amazing people, and make a few new connections along the way. There’s something really special about being in a room where people can let their guard down, laugh together, compete a little, and just enjoy getting to know one another. And that’s what I loved about this event. It didn’t feel like “networking.” It just felt like people genuinely connecting. Grateful for the laughs, the conversations, the new friendships, and the opportunity to spend an evening surrounded by such great people. Definitely one of those events where you leave already looking forward to the next one! #ConnectFest26 #DFWNetworking #Connections #Community #RelationshipBuilding Tim Mata 🎯 Tom Allen Jeffrey O. Angie Hillin reacted on thisAngie Hillin reacted on thisWhen I became CIO, I thought I had covered all aspects of IT. I hadn't. Controls and compliance were the part of the job I had spent my whole career avoiding. I used to think of that world as the office of no. Cybersecurity, SOX, and audit were areas I avoided at all costs. They were things other people worried about. Then I took the officer title, and within one quarter I was standing in front of the board reporting on exactly those things. I did not know what I was doing. I knew I needed to learn fast, and I knew I could not learn it alone. My CISO at the time was a man named David Poczynek. He became something closer to a chief of staff than a direct report. He taught me the frameworks. Not every technical detail, but enough structure that I could stand in front of the board and speak with confidence. He gave me the language before I had the depth, and that was exactly what I needed. David passed away recently. I think about him every time I talk about this part of my career, because none of it happens without him. A few things I learned from that experience: - You will hit a gap you cannot see coming. Mine was controls and compliance. Yours will be something else. - Ask for help early and say it out loud. I told David I did not understand this world and needed him to teach me. That admission bought me up to speed faster than I ever could on my own. -You do not need to master every technical detail. You need the framework. Once I understood how the pieces fit together, I could apply it, ask the right questions, and explain it to others without knowing every control ID. - Say thank you while you can. I did not always tell David how much his patience meant to me. I am telling everyone else now instead. Think Big!

Angie Hillin reacted on thisSometimes, giving back is as simple as taking a little time to remind someone that they are not alone. 💙 Today, I had the opportunity to spend some meaningful time with fellow members of SIM DFW volunteering with Make-A-Wish North Texas. We had the chance to tour their incredible facility, learn more about the work they do, hear stories about the children and families they serve, and then spend time writing personalized cards of encouragement to children currently waiting for their wishes to come true. What really stayed with me is that many of these children wait months while all of the details of their wish are being coordinated behind the scenes. A simple handwritten note can be a powerful reminder that people are cheering them on and that they are so special and so loved. It was a wonderful afternoon filled with perspective, gratitude, and a whole lot of heart. I'm grateful to be part of a community like SIM DFW that recognizes the importance of not only connecting professionally, but also coming together to make a difference in the lives of others. A little time. A few words of encouragement. And a lot of heart. You never know just how much of an impact it can make. ✨ Thank you to Make-A-Wish North Texas for welcoming us and for the incredible work you do every day to bring hope, strength, and joy to children and their families. Here's to finding more ways to give back, lift others up, and make a difference...one wish at a time. 💫 #SIMDFW #MakeAWish #GiveBack #Community #Volunteer #MakeADifference #Leadership #Gratitude #WishMakers #Genesis10 #InformationTechnology

Angie Hillin reacted on thisAngie Hillin reacted on thisToday, I had the honor of attending the memorial service for PFC Isabella Gonzales, a courageous young American who answered the call to serve our nation. In the family's darkest hours, the American Legion Post 597 in Carrollton stepped in immediately, standing beside them with compassion, honor, and unwavering support. Their actions were a powerful reminder that no Gold Star family should ever have to walk alone. Please continue to keep Isabella's family in your thoughts and prayers. The support they receive in the weeks and months ahead will mean just as much as the tributes shared today. May God bless PFC Isabella Gonzales, comfort her family, and continue to bless all who serve our great nation. To my fellow veterans: organizations like the American Legion and the VFW can only continue this mission if we step up. Membership numbers are declining, and these organizations need a new generation of veterans to carry the torch. If you've served, I encourage you to join your local American Legion or VFW and help ensure no veteran or military family ever stands alone.
