If you are playing as a fighter, cleric, or paladin in Baldur's Gate 3, you will most likely want to find some strong armor. Luckily, there are multiple legendary shields, armors, and weapons in the game, but you need to know where to look if you want to get your hands on them.

Baldur's Gate 3: How To Get The Club Of Hill Giant Strength

While it isn't the most powerful weapon in Baldur's Gate 3, the Club of Hill Giant Strength is fun to use near the beginning and should be obtained.

One of the best helmets you can find throughout the entire game is the Helm of Balduran. Unfortunately, a legendary item this powerful is hidden deep beneath the earth, and you won't be obtaining it very easily.

Let's break down how to get your hands on the Helm of Balduran in Baldur's Gate 3.

What is the Helm of Balduran in Baldur's Gate 3?

Baldur's Gate 3 Helm of Balduran Inventory

The Helm of Balduran is a legendary helmet in Baldur's Gate 3 that counts as medium armor, making it good for many classes, but best for fighters, clerics, and paladins. This helmet grants you the Balduran's Vitality passive ability, which heals you for two hit points every turn.

Along with this, it grants you a +1 bonus to your armor class and saving throws, gives you immunity to being stunned, and prevents you from getting hit by critical hits. The healing aura is perfect for tanks, as it will help keep you alive during combat.

The Helm of Balduran is great when combined with other strong armor pieces, such as the Helldusk Armor, which grants you the ability to fly and burn enemies when you succeed at a saving throw.

Since this helmet is medium armor, you cannot give it to any spellcasters, but it is best used by any of the melee classes. I prefer putting it on a cleric or paladin, as both of these classes are meant to be tankier, allowing them to take advantage of the abilities it offers.

Where to Find the Helm of Balduran

Unfortunately, the Helm of Balduran in Baldur's Gate 3 isn't available until the game's third act. Before you can get your hands on it, you will need to have progressed to Wyrm's Rock.

Before proceeding, I recommend making sure that each of your characters is level 12 and has the best gear for their class. I also recommend having a cleric or paladin on your team, as you will need a strong spellcaster and healer.

Now that you have reached Wyrm's Rock, make your way to the room with the fast travel point. From here, locate the passage that leads to the prison below.

Inside the prison, turn down the hallways and locate the one with two dragon torches at the end. To open the secret passageway, use any lightning spell on the dragon torches. This will open the wall, leading to the hidden passageway.

Follow the hidden passage to a statue. Interact with the statue and follow the prompts to gain access to the trials room. Here, you will have four trials to undertake before you can reach the room with the Helm of Balduran.

Chamber of Justice

Baldur's Gate 3 Helm of Balduran Insight Trial

In the Chamber of Justice, have a character use the spell Remove Curse on the statue surrounded by black smoke. After that, pick up the painting titled 'The Cell' and place it on the empty stand. This will complete the trial.

Chamber of Strategy

The Chamber of Strategy requires you to destroy the black king with only two moves. You have three chances to complete the room, or enemies will spawn and you will fail. The following solutions are acceptable:

  1. Move the white queen H6, then move the white queen to G7.
  2. Cast a powerful lightning spell on the black king to destroy it.

If you have Gale in your party, he can deduce the correct moves to make on the board.

Chamber of Courage

The Chamber of Courage is the most straightforward of the trials, as it simply requires you to survive the elements for four turns. This means that multiple Elementals will spawn and attack you.

If you survive for four turns, you will succeed, and the trial will be over. I recommend using summons for this fight, as this will make things easier. You can also use spells like Shield of Faith or Sanctuary to protect your allies.

Chamber of Insight

Baldur's Gate 3 Helm of Balduran Insight Trial Illusions

The Chamber of Insight tasks you with destroying an illusion of the one who betrayed Baldur's Gate. There are two methods of completing this trial as well. They are:

  1. Catch the flying books that will tell you about each of the NPCs, and then deduce who the culprit is.
  2. Shoot the illusion of Suelto using a ranged weapon from the entrance to the trial.

Choosing to simply shoot the illusion makes this trial much quicker.

Obtaining the Helm of Balduran

Now that you have completed all the trials, you can move deeper into the cavern to confront Ansur. This massive undead dragon is a pain to deal with, but not necessarily required to get the Helm of Balduran.

When you walk into the chamber with Ansur, you will be able to see the Helm of Balduran on a stone slab in the back of the room. Have one of your characters interact with Ansur, and during the conversation, switch over to another character and have them go retrieve the helmet.

Furthermore, you can leave your ally to perish at the hands of the dragon and resurrect them later using Withers at your camp. Of course, this is a cheap way of going about things, but it is nice to get the helmet without the need for battle.

Baldur's Gate 3 Helm of Balduran Ansur Fight

If you do want to battle Ansur, you can still grab the helmet first, equip it to the character you want to have it on, and then proceed with the fight.

During the battle with Ansur, the dragon will only deal lightning damage, so you can stack lightning resistance on you and your allies to help mitigate the damage.

I recommend having a paladin on your team, as the smite spells are very powerful and can help deplete Ansur's 400 hit points more quickly. A fighter is also useful here, as well as summons.

During the fight, I used a Circle of the Moon druid to summon multiple elementals to help with the fight. Thanks to that and the multiple smite spells I was able to cast, the fight only took three turns.

As a bonus, defeating Ansur will also get you Balduran's Giantslayer. This is a powerful legendary weapon that is great for the end of the game.
