Monster Hunter Wilds had a very strong start, but it’s been all downhill for it since then.
The game sold so well on launch that it shattered sales records both for Capcom and for platforms as a whole, but, as issues with its performance on PC in particular started to surface, those sales dropped off, along with its player count.
Now, Capcom has released their earnings report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 (via Push Square), and it shows that things have gotten quite dire for the record-setting title.
It has barely sold any copies since that first week, and it’s gotten to the point where it’s being outsold by earlier games in its own franchise.
At The Bottom Of The Ranking
According to the financial report, in the first half of the fiscal year (from the start of April to the end of September), Monster Hunter Wilds sold some 637,000 copies, putting it in tenth place in their sales ranking.
To date, the game has sold 10.7 million copies, over 8 million of which came from its first three days alone.
Based on the first-quarter report from the end of July, 477,000 of those sales were in the first quarter, meaning that Monster Hunter Wilds only sold 160,000 copies in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the previous game in the series, Monster Hunter Rise, has sold 643,000 copies in the first half of the fiscal year, with 254,000 of those coming from the second quarter, meaning it is continuing to outsell Wilds.
Latest Monster Hunter Wilds Update Is Making The Game Crash Left And Right
Expect a new patch to fix it to be released soon.
The other games that outsold Monster Hunter Wilds include Devil May Cry 5 at the top of the ranking, along with Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition and the HD Collection, all of which were likely buoyed by the success of the Netflix series. Several Resident Evil games round out the top 10.
For their part, Capcom has deemed Monster Hunter Wilds a failure and pinned the blame for its lackluster post-launch sales on the price of the PS5.
Most fans of the series, meanwhile, are pointing to the game’s ongoing performance issues on PC, for which fixes still seem to be a long time coming, as the reason for it continuing to struggle with a “Mostly Negative” Steam recent review rating.
