Youth
Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986, in London, England, in the Barnes District. His mother, Clare, worked at a modeling agency, while his father, Richard, imported cars to the United States. He has two older sisters, Victoria and Elizabeth. Growing up, he often played sports, hung out with his sisters, and enjoyed video games.
Education
He attended Tower House Boys' Preparatory School, where he played guitar and piano. It's also where he got interested in acting, though he got expelled for shoplifting adult magazines. He went on to attend the Harrodian School, where he excelled at English studies and focused on speechwriting before eventually deciding to actually pursue acting.
Career
Pattinson's first movie role was in 2004's Vanity Fair, though his scenes were ultimately cut. So, his real debut came a year later when he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which also helped him break out. He landed another major role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga from 2008 through 2012, which made him a household name.
Following the Twilight era, Pattinson honed his craft in impressive indie projects. His performances in Life (2015), Good Time (2017), and High Life (2018) all helped establish him as one of the best actors in Hollywood. His latest roles in The Lighthouse (2019), Tenet (2020), Mickey 17 (2025), and Die My Love (2025) were great, while he took on the iconic role of Bruce Wayne in The Batman (2022). 2026 is another great year for him, with roles in The Drama, The Odyssey, and Dune: Part Three.
Personal Life
Pattinson has been open about his dislike for the paparazzi and has done his best to stay out of the public eye when possible, as it often gives him anxiety. While filming Twilight, he and co-star Kristen Stewart were in a relationship. They broke up in 2013 and he went on to get engaged to FKA Twigs. After that, he met Suki Waterhouse and they began dating in 2018. They were engaged in late 2023 and had their first child, a daughter, in March 2024.
