There may be some good news in the air for Final Fantasy fans, as a new rumor may have shed some light on the release date of a new game coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix recently provided a small update on Final Fantasy 7 Remake part three and Kingdom Hearts 4, but with no announcements or release dates coming anytime soon, it looks like some leaks may have to tide fans over.
According to leaker NateTheHate on Reddit, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is slated for a 2026 release on Switch 2. The comment arose from a reply regarding concerns surrounding Rebirth's potential performance on Switch 2.
FF7 Rebirth Rumored For 2026 Switch 2 Release
Nintendo Fans May Get To Play It Soon
It's been confirmed for a while that the entirety of the FF7 Remake trilogy will be coming to Switch 2. The Switch 2 version of FF7 Remake still does not have a specific release date other than "winter 2025." The game was previewed recently, and many fans walked away impressed with the game's performance on the console.
NateTheHate is a fairly reputable leaker, and with the final part of the FF7 Remake trilogy likely set for an announcement sometime soon, it wouldn't be too surprising to see Rebirth on Switch 2 in 2026. Square Enix's Tokyo Game Show lineup does not include FF7, so the final part of the remake and the Switch 2 Rebirth announcements could be at The Game Awards in December.
FF7 Rebirth On Switch 2 May Be A Concern for Fans
It's A Massive Game
The third-party software performance on Switch 2 seems to always be in the conversation among Switch 2 fans. Recently, Star Wars Outlaws impressed on the console, and Cyberpunk 2077, while not perfect, also showed that the console is capable of a satisfying experience if optimized correctly.
NateTheHate expects there will be clever use of DLSS to get Rebirth performing well on the console. Hopefully, Remake's great performance on Switch 2 carries over to FF7 Rebirth, and Final Fantasy fans will have an excellent port of a stellar game to play in 2026.
