Beginning back in 2011 with the publication of the novel Leviathan Wakes by author James S. A. Corey, The Expanse franchise began. Now consisting of nine novels and nine novellas, it was back in 2015 that Syfy adapted the book series into a live-action television show of the same name which ran until its series finale in 2022. With six seasons under its belt, The Expanse was the subject of plenty of praise with the story following a group of protagonists who find themselves at the center of a conspiracy in a future where humanity has colonized the Solar System.
Its popularity is perhaps the reason why fans of The Expanse can look forward to one major upcoming release, which is expected to launch in early 2027: The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
Set in The Expanse universe, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is an upcoming RPG developed by Owlcat Games which has already been described as a Mass Effect-esque space opera.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a third-person Action RPG set in The Expanse universe. You’re no hero — just a merc caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, trying to hold your crew together and keep the ship up and running. Your choices will shape your story.
Set to launch in Spring 2027, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will see you take on the role of a space mercenary caught in the middle of a conspiracy and, as such, you will have to navigate the secrets that lurk throughout the galaxy, making decisions that could change everything along the way. Luckily, you will be joined by six companions, each with their own abilities, personalities, and motives.
Additionally, fans of customization will be pleased to learn that your protagonist can be created by you and, as well as choosing their appearance, you will be able to select one of three backgrounds: Earther, Martian, or Belter.
Visit iconic locations like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. Walk through ruined habitats and political strongholds mired in unease and tension. Talk to the locals. Uncover secrets. Use your skills to influence what happens next. The system looks different from every planet and from every asteroid. Some are falling apart. Others just hide it better. You may even come across a familiar face or voice that reminds you of just how small the system really is.
Featuring third-person combat with gameplay consisting of wielding a large arsenal of weapons, as well as utilizing abilities and gadgets galore. Whilst two companions accompany you on the field, the rest will stay behind, offering much-needed intelligence and cover by disabling systems or capturing the enemy's attention. By issuing real-time commands, you can easily turn the tide of battle in your favor.
With many believing that The Expanse: Osiris Reborn could serve as the Mass Effect successor, it is not one to miss, and luckily, we do not have long to wait until it launches on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.
