Obesity has become a global public health crisis, with the problem increasing in numerous nations. According to the World Obesity Federation, more than 1 billion people worldwide are currently living with obesity, specifically 880 million adults and 159 million children (aged 5-19 years). These statistics represent an obesity prevalence that has more than tripled since 1975. Such increasing rates have presented and continue to present challenges for reduction and stability of obesity prevalence in many countries. They have also inspired numerous available treatment options with the aim of preventing and managing obesity.
