Switching Weapon Loadouts in Avowed

The Action Radial allows you to cast Abilities, ingest Potions and Consumables, and equip Throwables.

All of your Abilities, your Companions Abilities, and your Companions Commands will always be accessible via the Action Radial, even if they are left unbound elsewhere.

Armor Stability in Avowed

Your armour type — Light, Medium, or Heavy — affects the intensity and recover time of your reactions to enemy attacks.

The heavier the Armor, the greater your stability against incoming attacks.

 

Blocking in Avowed

Blocking is only possible when your Off hand is empty or is holding a Shield.

To toggle whether Blocking will align the camera to your target go to Settings> Game > Blocking Aligns to Target.

 

Casting Abilities in Avowed

When you Level Up you will be awarded Ability Points that can be spent to purchase or upgrade Abilities.

Abilities require Essence to cast.

Your Essence Meter is the purple bar below your Health Bar.

Replenish Essence by drinking Essence Potions or collecting purple Essence fragments dropped by defeated enemies.

 

Essence Fragments

Defeated enemies drop purple Essence fragments that replenish your Essence when you absorb them.

 

Restoring Essence

Your Essence is low! Drink an Essence Potion or eat certain Foods via the Action Radia, or from Ouick Slots if these items are assigned to one.

Essence in Avowed

The purple bar below the Health Bar is the Essence Meter.

Essence is consumed to cast Spells and Abilities.

Leveling Up and Abilities in Avowed

When players level up, they will be awarded an Ability Point. Players can spend their Ability Points in the Abilities Screen to purchase or upgrade Abilities.

Each Ability Tree contains an array of both Active and Passive Abilities.

Ledger Screen in Avowed

Abilities Screen

  • The Abilities Screen allows you to access all Ability Trees.
  • When you Level Up, you will be awarded Ability Points that can be spent to purchase or upgrade Abilities. View an Ability's details and its possible Rank upgrades on the right side of the screen.
  • Each Ability Tree contains an array of both Active and Passive Abilities. While Passive Abilities assist you at all times, Active Abilities consume Essence and can be accessed via the Action Radiallb button avowed wiki guide45px or from Quick Slotsd pad upbutton avowed wiki guide45px.

Character Screen

  • The Character Screen shows your stats.
  • From this screen you can view Attributes and their related Bonuses, and can increase your Attributes by spending Attribute Points granted by Leveling Up.
  • Attribute Bonuses will cap out after a certain point!
  • You can also resety button avowed wiki guide 45px your Attribute points in exchange for Currency
  • On the right side of the screen is a comprehensive summary of your Character statistics, including your Background, Level, Damage Reduction granted by your Armor, Critical Hit Chance of your equipped Weapons, active Status Effects, and unlocked Abilities.

Journal: Documents

  • The Documents tab of the Journal allows you to refer to significant writings you find on your journey.
  • Documents are sorted by Region of origin.

Journal: Quests

  • The Quests tab of the Journal displays every Quest you have acquired, grouped by region.
  • Main Story Quests will always be at the top, followed by Side Quests, Companion Quests Bounties, and Treasure Maps.
  • The skull icon next to a Quest indicates that it will be of a higher challenge based on your currently equipped gear.
  • Press y button avowed wiki guide 45px to toggle completed Quests.

Journal: Tutorials

  • The Tutorials tab of the Journal contains all unlocked tutorials.
  • Refer to it when you're unsure of how something works or are in need of a refresher.

Map Screen

  • The Map Screen shows topographical maps of the Regions of the Living Lands and their Settlements.
  • Exploring the Livings Lands will gradually fill out your Map Screen with more geographic detail in the areas you have traversed.
  • It will also mark Points of Interest and other details like Quests, Stores, Area Transitions, Party Camps, and Fast Travel Beacons on your Map.
  • You can Fast Travel directly to Fast Travel Beacons and Party Camps by interacting with their icons on the Map.
  • Tracked Quest Objectives are marked on the Map with an icon. Untracked Quest Objectives are also marked on the Map with an icon.
  • PeS A while hovering over an Untracked Quest Objective to make it your Tracked Quest.

 

Weapon Types in Avowed

Unarmed

Unarmed Punches require little Stamina.

However, they deal low damage and Stun, and also prevent Blocking.

If you'd like to test your mettle,invest Ability Points into Iron Fists in the Fighter Abilty Tree.

 

Swords

Swords swing quickly, delivering moderate damage output.

However, they deal low Stun and have very low Block Efficiency incurring a high Stamina cost when Blocking.

 

Bows

Press left trigger button avowed wiki guide45px to Aim your Bow.

Press right trigger button avowed wiki guide45px to Shoot, hold right trigger button avowed wiki guide45px to Power Attack for greater accuracy.

Bows require both hands and shoot arrows quietly at very long range, dealing moderately high damage.

However, arrows will fall over time while moving through the air.

 

Grimoires

Grimoires enable a variety of Spells to be Cast or unlocked in the Wizard Ability Tree.

They can only be equipped in your Off Hand left trigger button avowed wiki guide45px.

When you equipped a Grimoire. Hold left trigger button avowed wiki guide45px and press a button avowed wiki guide 45pxb button avowed wiki guide45pxx button avowed wiki guide 45pxy button avowed wiki guide 45px to cast a spell.

 

Wands

Wands cast homing projectiles very quickly at Enemies up to medium range.

However, they have low Block Efficiency, incurring a moderately high Stamina cost when Blocking.

 

Great Hammers

Great Hammers deal extremely high damage and Stun. They also have high Block Efficiency, allowing them to Block with low Stamina cost.

However, they swing very slowly with a very high Stamina cost.

 

Basic Movements in Avowed

Climbing

  • Press keyboard spacebar button avowed wiki guide45px while facing a nearby surface to Climb onto it.

 

Crouch

  • Press left control keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45pxc keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45px to Crouch.

 

Freezing Water

  • Water can be frozen to create traversable Ice Platforms by casting an ice spell, using an Enchanted Weapon, or throwing an Eye of Rymrgand on the water's surface. 

 

Jump

  • Press keyboard spacebar button avowed wiki guide45px/a button avowed wiki guide 45px to jump.

 

Movement

  • Use w keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45pxs keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45pxd keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45pxa keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45px to move. Use mouse movement button avowed wiki guide45pxto turn the camera.

 

Slide

Sprint

Swimming

  • While underwater keep an eye on the Breath Meter at the top of the screen. When it depletes you will begin to lose Health.

Compass

The Compass in the upper left corner of the screen will display Quest Objective Markers, nearby Enemies, Consumables, and other helpful information!

 

Critical Hits in Avowed

Critical Hits are denoted by yellow damage numbers. They produce massive damage and increased knock back distance. 

Each Weapon has its own Critical Hit Chance, supplemented by your perception stat avowed wiki guide35pxPerception attribute.

To toggle whether Damage Numbers are displayed, go to Settings> UI > Damage Numbers.

Power Attack in Avowed

Briefly hold and release keyboard left button button avowed wiki guide 45px/right trigger button avowed wiki guide45px to perform a Power Attack.

Power Attacks deal higher damage and break enemy Blocks, but consume more Stamina.

Enemies have a Stun Meter below their Health Bar. Attacking enemies will build up their Stun.

Reviving Companions in Avowed

When a Companion's Health is depleted they will be incapacitated and display a Skull Icon.

Incapacitated Companions will automatically Revive at the end of combat.

Game Systems in Avowed

Accumulation: Bleed

  • Bleeding enemies will take damage over time.

Accumulation: Fire

  • Dealing Fire damage to an enemy will eventually cause it to be Ignited.
  • Ignited enemies will take damage over time.

Accumulation: Frost

  • Dealing Frost damage to an enemy will eventually cause it to be Frozen.
  • Frozen enemies can be Shattered for massive bonus damage if hit by Explosive damage or enough of any other damage type in a short time.

Accumulation: Poison

  • Poisoned enemies will take damage over time.
  • Certain Weapons, Abilities, and throwable Forgotten Soul Pods will produce Poison damage.

Accumulation: Shock

  • Dealing Shock damage to an enemy will eventually cause it to be Shocked.
  • Shocked enemies will periodically spread Shock damage and Stun to nearby enemies.

Damage Reduction & Additional Reduction

  • All Armor grants Damage Reduction which negates a percentage of incoming damage; and Additional Reduction, which subtracts a raw number from incoming damage.

Breakable Objects

Press right trigger button avowed wiki guide45px with a Weapon equipped to attack and break a Breakable Object. Breakable Objects are represented with an Sword icon.

Burnable Barriers

Certain barriers can be burned with Fire damage.

Some Spells, Abilities, Unique Weapons, and naturally-occurring Magran's Fury produce Fire damage.

Encumbrance

  • Some Items, like Weapons and Armor have Weight.
  • Your Carry Capacity is displayed at the bottom of the Inventory Screen and is influenced by your Might Attribute - exceeding it will make you Encumbered.
  • While Encumbered, you will move slower than usual and are unable to Sprint.
  • Choose Break Down or Stash in Camp on the items in your Inventory to reduce your Carry Weight. Stashing items from your Inventory will make them appear in your Party Stash at Party Camp.

Fast Travel

Approach Fast Travel Beacons to unlock access to them on the Map.

Select an icon on the Map to Fast Travel to it.

Trip Wires

Trip wires can be Disarmed by Interactingx button avowed wiki guide 45px with the ends of their wire.

 

Stamina & Exhaustion in Avowed

Stamina is consumed to perform actions like Attack and Dodge. Stamina recharges over time.

When you run out of Stamina (the white bar at the bottom of the screen), you become Exhausted and momentarily cannot Attack, Dodge, or Sprint.

 

Stealth in Avowed

Press left control keyboard avowed controls wiki guide45px/b button avowed wiki guide45px to Crouch and sneak up on Enemies. Utilize Cover Grass to obscure yourself from enemies.

While crouching nearby an unaware enemy, press keyboard left button button avowed wiki guide 45px/right trigger button avowed wiki guide45px to perform Divine Thorn, a godlike stealth attack.

 

Second Wind in Avowed

Second Wind activates when you become incapacitated and restores a portion of your health. If you become incapacitated while Second Wind is in cooldown, you will die.

Save & Load in Avowed

You can Save and Load your progress in the Pause Menu.

Auto-Save Frequency can also be tweaked in Settings > Game.

 

Ability Tree: Companions

Now that you have recruited a Companion, you have access to the Companions Tab in the Abilities Screen of the Ledger!

When your Companions Level Up you will be able to spend Companion Ability Points to purchase or upgrade their Abilities.

You may also spend Currency to reset Companion Ability Points.

 

Companion Commands

Companions have unique Commands that can help you past certain obstacles.

While facing one of these obstacles, open the Action Radial with lb button avowed wiki guide45px and select the Command you wish to activate.

 

Reviving Companions

When a Companion's Health is depleted they will be incapacitated and display an skull icon.

Walk up to a Companion and hold to Revive them, restoring their Health.

Incapacitated Companions will automatically Revive at the end of combat

      Sometimes when in combat, there is a white orb that appears on top of the enemy’s head. Doesn’t seem to be affected by any type of damage. Can’t seem to find any mention anywhere.
